I just heard about Mike's passing. This is so sad. I have thought about him & Jody often and was hoping they were well. In the years I worked with him he was one of a handful of people that I trusted and respected. As a Printer and a Man. Plus we were both North side Guys (Aldine). What a loss, I am so sorry and wish his family the best

Dearest Michael,

Even though you have parted this Earth and have reunited with mom and dad, I know that you are still here, please when you have a chance, look in on your brother-Buster. I only had wished that you two could have had more time together and that I could have been a better brother-in-law to you, Jody and the girls.

Until that days comes when we will all be reunited, hear my eternal prayers for my love to you, mom, dad and the rest of the Johnson family.

When I was five and had been in school for just a few weeks, I learned the startling fact that “Mike” was short for “Michael”. And that revelation blew my little mind. When I came home from school that day, Mom asked what I had learned, and I shared with her my epiphany. 
“Did you know that Mike is short for Michael?” She nodded yes.
“I have a Michael,” I said. And I saw her eyebrows shoot up in warning. 
“I think I will call my Michael “Mike” now.”
Mom turned around and got very close to my face, and gently, but very firmly said, “No. You. Will. Not.  His mama wouldn’t like it. His name is Michael.” So, “my” Michael remained “Michael.”
Year later, when Jody joined our family, she called him Mike, and we learned that lots of other people called him Mike as well. And of course, it was no big deal, and his mama did not mind at all now that he was grown. We all tried to follow suit, but my little five-year old brain still finds it a challenge to call him Mike. I guess that’s because he’s still my Michael. My sweet bonus brother…I love you and I’m so grateful for you. We’ll see you when we all get home. In the meantime, rest well and please save me a seat. I’ll bring the bread. 

Sometime in the 1940s, Mike’s mother and grandmother moved in with my mom’s family.  Mike’s mom (Eloise) and mine (Annette) were both about the same age and even shared a bed in a tiny house off of Amber Road with the rest of the family. They grew up together, and married and had children about the same time, so our families were always close.  I remember giant dogs, fat cats, homemade breakfast Jacks, Buster washing his hair with mayonnaise, and Mike showing off his letter from Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (they shared a birthday). Mike was born a month before me but he always seemed older to me. He was more mature, wiser, and much cooler.  I remember envying his Atari and Farrah Fawcett posters.  He even had girlfriends when I was still worried about cooties. That gap persisted as we grew older and I always felt he made better decisions than me. Well, except for that time he burned his entire Houston Oilers collection.  I mentioned to Mike a while back that I would be buying a house.  He offered to help with fixing it up and I was really looking forward to that. The loss of Mike left a big hole in the world but his example gives me hope that we can fill that void.

My whole life, Daddy was always the person I looked up to.  Memories flood my brain and it’s overwhelming, sometimes i dont know what to do.. From learning how to write my name, to riding a bike, to teaching math on long frustrating nights, to how to judge a boy and if he was up to no good, to teaching me hard life lessons and do the right things, as he would. Daddy always said, be nice and taught me how to be a good friend, he told me it would take me far in the end. He taught me hard work, elbow grease, and how to detail a truck. Yeah i got In trouble a few times.. boys-just my luck. And when my heart got broken, daddy was always there, and he told me he would always be THE boy that cared. Daddy loved scary movies and would put on horror flicks, but beware, don’t take restroom breaks, cause dad had a few tricks. I was never too old to cuddle or to give a kiss, and I’m glad i always did, because those I’m sure going to miss. Just like your smile and laugh and how you lit up a room..daddy my heart aches to see you, I’m drowning in gloom. I know you’re my angel and you are watching over my son, but i just can’t help it daddy, i miss you a ton! I’ll carry on your legacy and live in your name, but without you daddy, I’ll never be the same. 

I'm heartbroken for all 3 of Mike's "girls" as he lovingly referred to his wife and daughters.  Jody, McKenna and Courtney my heart goes out to all of you.  I can't imagine your sorrow.  Mike was my favorite pressman.  We always had a special bond which sometimes included fighting but we always hugged it out.  We had a great system and worked well together.  He enriched my life and I'm blessed to have called him friend.   I'm so sad.  Cancer sucks.  I pray you all find comfort in your memories.  Mike was a kind, gentle soul and will be missed by so many.  Love Rebecca

"Everyone leaves footprints in your memory, but the ones that leave footprints in your heart are the ones you will truly remember." 

Michael has left many footprints in my heart and I will treasure them always. 
Michael was always a "love bug”. 
From the time he could crawl, if I was in the room, he would make his way over to me. 
He wanted in my lap or just to be near me, 
most likely because I would read, sing, and play with him.  

One summer day at Country Granny and Paw’s farm he was being his energetic self. Granny asked if I could get both Michael and Buster to take a nap. Of course Buster fell right to sleep. Michael, on the other hand, was being a wiggle-tail. He was climbing back and forth over me and there was not much hope he would fall asleep. I finally told him I was tired and that I was closing my eyes. He was quiet for a minute or two and then all of a sudden I felt this tiny finger opening my eyelid. He said while holding it open, “are you awake”. My response was, "shhhh I’m sleeping". 
Afterwards he rolled over and finally went to sleep. 

This energetic little boy grew up to be a wonderful loving man. 

I am a better person for knowing and loving him and blessed he was family. 

I will miss you Michael, but I will never, ever forget how you made me and the rest of your family feel. 

We all were priority in your life.

Christmas Eve celebrations at Annette’s was Suttle tradition. This was taken before I joined the family, but this symbolizes the warm family gatherings that were so memorable.  Our prayers are with you Jody, McKenna, Aaren, Courtney, James, Buster and Peter.  ❤️
