MICHAEL “MIKE” ARTHUR TOFTE, 75, of Houston, Texas, passed away on his birthday, September 20, 2015. Mike was born to Charles Frederick Jr. and Dolores Tofte in Houston, TX in 1940. He attended Reagan High School and went on to enter the United States Navy where he proudly served until 1961. Immediately upon his return, he entered the family business, Industrial Tool & Die (now ITD Precision) with his father, Charles Frederick Tofte Jr. and in 1966 established Pelletizer Knives Inc. On December 30, 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Ann Marie Hays at All Saints Catholic Church. Evelyn is the oldest daughter of Wallace and Margie Hays of Houston, Texas. Shortly after their marriage, Mike and Evelyn began their family with the birth of their children, Monica Lynn, Sherry Ann and Michael Charles. And so their story began.
Mike had a true love of life whether in a manufacturing plant, on a boat, on a golf course or spending time with his growing family. He was a shining example of what a husband, father, paw paw, friend, boss, colleague, golfing and fishing buddy were. His life is marked by character and integrity and a sharp, funny and sometimes frank sense of humor. His business successes are anchored in honest, authentic dealings and his achievements have spawned manufacturing businesses throughout the state of Texas. He was a longtime member of Pine Forest Country Club since 1972. As a native Houstonian and a graduate of Reagan High School, he is surrounded by dozens of “Heights Rats” even today.
At the heart of his life, Mike is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn and their three children: Monica Lynn Tofte-Lovoi and her husband Paul; Sherry Ann Tofte; Michael Charles Tofte and his wife, Jenifer. “Paw-Paw” was also survived and adored by his seven grandchildren: Ryan Thomas Heller, Amanda Hays Heller, Megan Blair Tofte, Madison Paige Tofte, Taber Jackson Tofte, Luke McManus Lovoi and Jake Andrew Lovoi. Mike is also survived by his brother, William “Bill” Tofte, of Houston, Texas, sister, Frieda Tofte-Isbel, of Taylor, Texas and is preceded in death by his sister Linda Marie Tofte. Mike is loved by his many nieces and nephews as well as hundreds of faithful friends and employees. His life extends to so many.
