Mildred Katherine Rosecrants was born in Cordell Oklahoma on June 9th 1921 at the beginning of the Great Depression. She was the second of 4 children born to Hugh Hiram Rosecrants and Ara Pearl Higginbotham.
Mildred graduated from Cordell Senior Highschool in 1939 and married Eldon Leon Allen that same year. Moving to California to escape the aftermath of the Oklahoma Dust Bowl, Leon enlisted in the Naval Airforce while Mildred remained stateside and helped make parachutes during the war. After the war they had 2 children. Seeking better employment during the oil boom, the family relocated to Houston, TX in 1962. Mildred had many fascinating jobs there including selling Avon door-to-door, working at American Greeting Card, and See’s candies. However her family remembers her best for her creative talents, including her oil paintings, her watercolors and her ceramics which were all on display in her home.
Mildred and Leon were married 49 years, until Leon passed away in 1988. Mildred continued to live in Houston near her daughter’s family, until 2010 when she relocated to Tulsa, OK for medical attention. She lived out her final years there, surrounded by her son’s family and church friends. She passed away on Monday November 23, 2020, peacefully in her own bed.
She is survived by her sister: Geraldine Ojemann, her daughter: Norma Carole Wilkerson of Houston, her son: Eldon Dewayne Allen of Oklahoma and her seven Grandchildren: Ambre, April, Amanda, David, Tara, Dana, and Lara and 11 great grandchildren.
