Rose Minerva Madrigal Martinez (Minnie / Grandma Minnie / G'min), age 93 of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on March 19, 2025 surrounded by her children. She was born on October 30, 1931 in Edinburgh, Texas to Pablo and "Lucy" Madrigal. She was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother. She was a drum majorette in high school and always loved a good football game. She thoroughly enjoyed attending the University of Texas Longhorn football games and more recently still enjoyed watching the Longhorns on TV. She was very active in her children's lives by volunteering for school functions and always enjoyed being Girl Scout Cookie Chair. She was quite the bowler in her younger years and she and Dad enjoyed being involved in league play. The neighbor kids always came over to play in our yard because of Mom... she always had cookies and lemonade ready for when they came over. And she was always there to help a neighbor in need. Once married, she was an active member of the Geo-Wives Club.
While still raising her own children, she became the sole caretaker of her own mother for many years. Nothing meant more to her than family. She was the 2nd oldest of seven children and spoke fondly of her siblings quite often. She attended Pan Am University in Edinburg, Texas and then worked for Union Petroleum, where she met her husband of 48 years, Louis Martin Martinez. She was a devout Catholic and loved her Faith and family. Her other passions included painting, gardening, sewing, baking, making jewelry, a variety of crafts, and was a huge nature lover. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was always on the go, loved flowers, flower arranging, playing games and keeping up with current events. She always had a sense of wonder, awe, and curiosity about the world around her. Her wonderment never subsided. She loved all holidays, music, dancing, singing, pinecones, and rocks - and had quite the collection. Giving and receiving gifts, especially 'little nothings' brought her great joy. She thought of them as little treasures.
She is survived by her three children, Barbara T. Martinez, Edward L. Martinez (Eddie), Laura L. Tyson, and her beloved grandchildren, Martin Graham Tyson III (Graham), and McAllister Rose Tyson (Malli). She will also be missed by Tulip (Tu), our beloved kitty cat that was never allowed in her closet or on her bed, but even Tulip got away with these antics from time to time and had a special way with G'min.
