On April 4th in the year 1939, Deacon Alvester and Sally Alexander were blessed with the birth of a son, Nathaniel (Nathan) Alexander. Nathan grew up in Winnfield, Louisiana and graduated from Pinecrest High School. After marrying his high school sweetheart, Dorothy McWright, they moved to Houston, Texas where they established their foundation, built their home, and started a family.
Nathan worked in the trucking industry as a local and long haul over-the-road truck driver. Nathan also attended trade school where he received his degree in Refrigeration/Air Conditioning. In the end, Nathan returned to the trucking industry where he was a proud member of Teamsters Local 888. Nathan retired from Yellow Freight on April 28, 2000.
Nathan was born in a Christian home. As he grew, so did his love, faith, and walk with God. When asked for advice, he would respond with scripture, Nathan would say, “All I know is the word of God. It’s the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.” Nathan and his family joined Shadydale Church of God where he and his family worked side by side. Nathan was President of the Trustee Board, President of the Brotherhood, Sunday School Superintendent, church bus driver, repairman, mechanic, served on the Care Ministry, choir member, player/coach for the church baseball and basketball team, and ultimately, Minister.
Nathan was truly a devoted husband of 62 years. Daddy and Paw Paw, whether attending Joyce’s modeling events, Joe’s sporting activities, or Teresa’s dance performances, he was his childrens’ #1 fan. Nathan’s peacock pride soared to new heights when he became Paw Paw.
Nathan was often seen cheering his grandchildren from little league to NFL games. Nathan displayed a Kool-Aid grin when he became a great-grandfather followed by being a great great-grandfather.
Minister Alexander answered his Heavenly Father’s call on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Alvester and Sally Alexander, and his sisters, Pastor Worthy Jennings and Evangelist Eddie Bea Pitre.
Nathan leaves his legacy, precious memories, and all his love to his best friend and forever love, his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Alexander, daughter, Joyce Marie, son, Joe Nathan {Katherine}, daughter, Teresa Gail {Louie, Ill}, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, sister, Dr. Emma Jean Alexander, brother, Haywood Alexander, nieces, nephews, godsons Dr. Levi Cyrus, Reverend Dexter Jackson, Marcus Richardson and Ja’Voris Potier, and many other relatives, lifelong neighbors, and friends.
