Heaven, being in need of a beautiful, ingenious, and selfless angel, called upon Dr. Miriam Jane Folta this Sunday, July 12, 2015. She was born in Ostrava, Czechoslovakia on January 6, 1952. Under Communist oppression, her family immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1968. Arriving without knowing any English, she obtained a Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 1975 from the University of Manitoba. She was one of the first women to graduate and was awarded the Governor General’s gold medal for finishing at the top of her class. In 1978, Miriam moved to Texas where she continued to practice dentistry until her untimely death. Always the entrepreneur, she opened her practice, Memorial Dentists, which brought her much joy by bringing beautiful smiles to her patients.
More than just a talented dentist, Miriam was incredibly intelligent, an avid reader, a savvy business entrepreneur, a talented cook, and most of all a gracious and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. For several years, she unselfishly cared for her ageing parents until her mother’s death just two and one half months ago. Generous to a fault, she loved unreservedly all of her family and friends. She was an outstanding woman with a wonderful sense of humor – we can still hear her infectious laugh, and see her beautiful, smiling face.
Miriam is survived by: husband, Ron Cramer; sons, Mark and Adam Thiessen; brother, Jiri Folta; niece, Michelle Folta; and grandchildren, Baron and Berkley Thiessen – all of whom love her dearly and will cherish her memory forever.
Services will be held at Earthman, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024 on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 2pm with a viewing at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Stroke Association in her memory.
