

Earnest grew up in the 5th ward area on Hardy Street in Houston, Texas. He received his formal education from the Houston ISD school system.
Earnest married Phyllis Tillis in 1967 and to this union he had 3 sons Earnest DeWalt, III, Cedric DeWalt, and Jerrad DeWalt. Earnest’s life was filled with the things he enjoyed doing. Cooking, hunting, dancing, but most of all, fishing.
In the later years, Earnest’s health began to fail him. However, he remained happy and full of life.
Earnest was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca DeWalt; Son, Cedric DeWalt; sister, Catherine Stewart; and brothers, Allen Williams and Earnest Ray DeWalt.
Earnest leaves to cherish in memory his father, Earnest DeWalt, Sr.; wife, Phyllis DeWalt; sons Earnest DeWalt, III (Brenda) and Jerrad DeWalt (Tammy); 2 brothers, Henry DeWalt and Melvin Dewalt (Toni); 3 sisters, Stella Lewis (Harold), Prince Dellafosse (Robert), and Carol Smith; 3 aunts, Lula Faye Smith, Edna Green and Ethel Lee Barnett; favorite cousin and fishing partner, Delight DeWalt; best friend, Ron Shorts. He also leaves his grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
