

Mercedes started from humble beginnings in Louisiana, and at the age of 16, moved to Houston, Texas. Raised as a Catholic, she converted to the Baptist faith and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior while a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, in the Fourth Ward. She obtained her high school diploma in her adult age and worked at two major hotels, the Rice Hotel and Stouffers Hotel, as a housekeeping supervisor.
On February 24, 1946 she married Isaiah Carter and to that union eight children were born. Calvin, Lois, Gloria, Janice, Karen, Kenneth, Shelia, and Davilon.
In 1984, she joined Lakewood Church under the leadership of Pastor John Osteen where she remained a faith member until GOD called her home.
She is preceded in death by her parents Carlton and Gertrude, her beloved husband of 59 years, Isaiah, three brothers Hebrair, Frances and Carlton, Jr, two sisters Lessie Howard and Eura Greene.
A devoted wife and loving mother, Mercedes leaves to cherish her life and memories; 8 children, Calvin, Lois (McClairy), Gloria, Janice (Ulysses), Karen, Kenneth, Shelia, and Davilon; 14 grandchildren, David, Robin (Avery), Devora (Andre), Shenita, McClairy, Krystal, Daimon, Ulysses III, Jonathan, Joel, Christopher, Joshua, Isaiah, Sharda; 14 great grandchildren, David, Avery Jr., Madison, Morgan, Paris, Robert, London, Shakayla, Makalya, Julian, Daimon Jr., Makaylyn, Zaniyah, Zechariah; one brother, Creighton Greene, 4 sisters, Julia St. Charles, Mary Greene, Lazada Wynn, Jessie Jenkins, and a host of relatives and friends.
The family of Mrs. Mercedes Marie Carter is very proud of the legacy of love for Christ, positive work ethics, honesty, education, and respect for others, instilled by their parents.
