

Elizabeth Clay, a beautiful soul, loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to many, transitioned from this earthly world to her heavenly home on July 19, 2019 following a short illness. Elizabeth was born on October 18, 1945 to the late Virgil and Mertice Clay in Henderson, Texas. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age. For over 55 years, she was a faithful and loyal member of the New Loyalty Baptist Church under the direction of the late Rev. Benny Reynolds and Rev. C.E. Butler. As a teen, Elizabeth attended Kashmere High School where she was active on the swim team and a member of the Rams Marching Band under the direction of Conrad O. Johnson. She graduated from Kashmere High School in 1963 and went on to further her education at Texas Southern University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Following her graduation from Texas Southern University, Elizabeth worked in the Insurance field for 40 years. Thirty of those years were spent at PLI Brokerage until her retirement from there in 2008. She was a faithful member of National Association of Insurance Women (NAIW) for over 20 years and served 2 terms as local president. She shared a lifelong bond with the ladies in the NAIW association. Elizabeth lived a very full, exciting and joyful life. She enjoyed attending family events, traveling with her insurance organization, antique shopping, and gardening. She shared a special and loving relationship with her daughter, Bridgette. Elizabeth further cared for and loved her Miniature Schnauzers Apple “Struedel” Clay and Blueberry “Muffin” Clay which both preceded her in death. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Mertice Clay; brothers, Kenneth Wayne Clay, Alvin George Clay, and Stanley Andrew Clay. To celebrate her earthly memories, she leaves her beloved daughter, Bridgette P. Laryea (Ishmael); her loving grandson, Jonathan Adjei Laryea; her two sisters, Vernita Perry (James) and Marsha Shorts (Kenneth); two brothers, Steve Clay (Bertha)and Randy Clay (Cyenthia); two God Daughters, Haley Jordan and Wendy Vaughn; her special friend, Judy Koudeljika-Roth (Peter) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbors, and friends who know that Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.
