

On July 5, 1959, Doris and Etta Mae Burnley were blessed with a beautiful daughter whom they named Vergia Elaine Burnley. Vergia was born in Houston, Texas where she lived throughout her years. She was the fifth child of this union. Vergia grew up in the Piney Point area where she attended Emerson Elementary and Lanier Jr. High School. The family later moved to southeast Houston where she attended and graduated from Lamar High School. Vergia Elaine Harris was also a graduate of Texas Southern University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree. She also attended Letourneau University School of Theology. Vergia Elaine Harris accepted Christ at an early age, and united with Greater Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church where she and her entire family attended. Vergia Elaine Harris later united with Sloan Memorial United Methodist Church where she and her children were long-time members. Upon moving to Spring, Texas, Vergia joined Fallbrook Church where she was an active member and participated in several activities with the church. She was a part of the Women’s Ministry. Vergia loved working for the Lord and she was also involved in prison ministry. Vergia Elaine Harris is preceded in death by her son, Jack Harris; her mother and father, Etta Mae Burnley and Doris Burnley; sisters, Cynthia Burnley and Ruby Joyce Hutchins. In Vergia Elaine Harris’ joyous journey, she was blessed with five children; Jackie Burnley (Salim Finney), Jack Harris (deceased), Jarvis Harris, Ashley Harris and Amber Mitchell. She leaves to cherish her memory seven grandchildren, Te’quan Sykes, Christopher Barker, Ariel Harris, Jarvis Harris Jr., Jamyrah Harris, Jayvian Harris, Trevon Causey; two brothers, Grover Wright Jr., Otis Burnley (Esther); four sisters, Maxine Everett, Gwendolyn Walker (Eddie Jr.), Regina Johnson, Doris Harris; a lifelong friend, Sarah Crosby, god-daugther, Shadarra Crosby, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
