

Nan Alice Elam Hamby passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013 in Tomball, TX at the age of 84. She was born July 22, 1928, in Wichita Falls, TX and was the daughter of Frank Haynes Elam and Nan Oriel Victoria McGhee (Elam). She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Jamie Earl Hamby, her daughter, Nancy Carol Hamby, and her sister Leila Carol Cleveland. She is survived by daughters and husbands, Katherine A. and Michael D. Clark of Spring, TX, Michele J. and David R. Feuerborn of Houston, and Brenda C. and Tom Young of Georgetown, TX, and son and wife, James F. and Vickie Hamby of Jacksonville, FL, also grandchildren Christopher M. Clark of Richardson, TX, James W. Hamby, and Kaitlyn D. Hamby of Jacksonville, FL, and brother, Frank McGhee Elam of Houston. Mrs. Hamby grew up in north Texas, but moved to San Antonio, TX in 1957. She moved to the Houston area in January of 2012. She was a talented artist and painted on canvas, crocheted afghans, and made dolls and lace-draped figurines, sometimes in her own kiln. She loved painting porcelain and china, and was a member and past president of Alamo Porcelain Art Club and member of IPAT (international group). One of her paintings won a contest and was exhibited at the Witte Museum in the early 1960s. Mrs. Hamby was an executive secretary for many years for the City Council of San Antonio. There will be a visitation for Mrs. Hamby at Pat Foley Funeral Home, 1200 34th St., Houston, TX from 2 – 4 PM on Saturday, Jan 19. The funeral will be at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Loop 1604 in San Antonio, TX @ 10 AM on Monday, Jan 21, with reception to follow in the parish hall. Interment afterwards will be at Mission Park North at 12:30 PM.
