Oh my love, I miss you dearly! You have 3 beautiful grandchildren that talk about their G-nan often, especially Cami. 

She was my loving wife, special mother, and amazing women of faith. She is missed more than anyone will ever know.

Randy, I am so sorry to hear of Nancy's passing. I will always remember her beautiful smile. I remember the first time I met her, sitting on my Mom's front porch, and being told "this is Randy's wife". I thought what a blessed man you were to have such a wonderful wife. The two of you created a beautiful family and home together.

My life was blessed for being able to call Nancy my Aunt.  She was an amazing woman in so many different ways, so much so, that you could honestly say she was the whole package.  I don't even need to recap all the wonderful things that made up her package because if you knew Aunt Nancy you know exactly what I mean.  I have so many memories of Aunt Nancy; my earliest is when the whole Burchfield family came to visit our family when I was five or six years old and living in Colorado.  So many of my memories is of the Burchfield family making a trip to Oklahoma just to visit or for the important things like Graduation, Weddings, Holidays, or Reunions.  I never really knew how they could get so much stuff in a suitcase or their car….but they had everything they needed and then some because Aunt Nancy was an expert packer.  When we were kids, I remember her calling out for the “girls” to come in for dinner when we were at Grandma's house and usually up to no good.  As an adult, she always made the holiday decorations look beautiful.  She had the “Grandma touch” when it came to fixing the dressing, mashed potatoes, and macaroni at the holiday events because there wasn't a holiday that I recall her not being in the kitchen helping Grandma prepare the food.  I am thankful I was able to see her several times this year and for my son to meet my favorite Aunt Nancy.  She was a beautiful person inside and out.  I will miss her but I know that I will see her smiling face one day in Heaven.

I will always remember you, Nancy, for your beautiful spirit and inspiration.  I appreciate the time you and Randy spent with Charles and me at dinner.  You put forth an extra effort to include us.  That was about a year ago. We were new to the Sunday School Class and neither one of us consider ourselves to be out going people.  Somehow you knew we needed friends..

 I didn't know you had cancer at that time, although we had been going to Sunday School for a few months.  During our dinner conversation, you put on that beautiful smile and said you didn't want people to remember you as a cancer victim.  You wanted them to remember you as who you really are, Nancy.  I want to be just like you!  I now hesitate before I share all my "troubles".  I know everyone has their own struggles.  Mine are really very tiny compared to some.  I want people to remember me, like you, as myself  not a victim.  Thank you for your life inspiration.  God is Good.

Nancy, you believed in me and fought for me when others weren't willing to take the chance. You were always there to listen and celebrate the good news. You handed over the planning reins and I knew I would never be able to be as organized as you. You helped everyone that walked into Bury and never complained about the changes you had to adjust to or your own illness. I admire and respect you and will miss you terribly.  Your family honored you with a beautiful service and I hope they will be able to remember all those good times and carry your legacy. I love you, sweet friend

At Sunday early morning prayer time before Life Bible Study, I recall Nancy's (always) beginning words when she prayed: "Lord, thank you for today." At the time, knowing what Nancy was facing, her words were very poignant and made me aware that today is all any of us have and the importance of choosing how we will live. It was a seed planted in my heart and mind to commit to do whatever work the Lord has for me to do, whether it means volunteering in the church kitchen, at Fall Festival, in Children's Ministry, or helping family and friends by sharing the time, talents and skills the Lord has given me. While I didn't know Nancy for a long time, her sweet spirit had a profound effect on me. I'm thankful our paths crossed.

Dear Randy and Family, no words can truely express or comfort in the begining of such a great loss. The heart hurts and has to. But in time, though the hurt finds a place to reside in the heart, the goodness of wonderful memories will keep it in its place. Allowing to never forget, to always love and live by Nancy's great example. Gone too soon.

Susanne and I want you to know you and your family are in our prayers.  I guess it has been 21 years since we left Houston and The Met.  I remember having some great times as a Sunday school class. From our time tromping around Grandmother Fenimore's farm, avoiding the bull, fighting with the boys and enjoying grandmother's delicious home cooking, Nancy has been part of my earliest memories.  She had a wonderful smile and eyes that twinkled and I always enjoyed visiting with her and catching up at holiday or reunion gatherings.  Although, she will not physically be present at future ones, she will be there in spirit and through the lives of her family. 

I have been in awe by her bravery and strength this past 6 1/2 years.  She has truly been an inspiration to me.  I have been thankful for the love and support of Randy, Dana and Janie during this time period.  It seems that your individual love and faith has helped support each other.

I pray that you each find peace and healing in your own way and with the help of your faith and family.

Randy, This poem is special to me.  It was written by my Dad (1924-1998)...in honor of Nancy I share it with you.

Nancy, thank you so much for the kindness you showed me and my family over the years.  Although we've only known you for 10 years, you will always be remembered as a true and dear friend.  Whether it was keeping me focused at work or buying girl scout cookies from our only daughter, your kindness and generosity will always be cherished.  Your strength and optimism during these difficult times has been an inspiration.  Our family is better for having known you and we are proud to call you a friend.

Randy,  Although our childhood began at Emmanuel and we haven't seen much of each other thru the years,  it looks like from your guest book photos that you took full advantage of every minute you could to embrace your beautiful bride and live the Godly life He intended.   May God give you peace and comfort as you reminisce on memories of the past and the knowing that you will reunite in the presence of your maker.

Nancy had the gifts of mercy and ministry and through all of this cancer battle had a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eyes.  We came to love Nancy and you, Randy through the support group at church - Can-Hope. We have some fond memories of Nancy.  You were so supportive of that ministry and pray it ministered to you.   One of the main things that stands out to us about Nancy was how she and you too Randy ministered to our daughter and son-in-law and the whole family when he went through cancer and was so sick. The pictures are beautiful and are a beautiful example of the gorgeous lady that Nancy always was. She always had that sweet smile and sparkle in her eyes. My prayers and thoughts are with the family.

Many years ago Pam introduced me to her new best friend, Nancy Rakestraw.  Nancy was a year older and went to the same church as we did.  We soon felt like she was one of our family.  Then my nephew Randy Burchfield came out for a visit from Houston.  Pam introduced them and it wasn't long until we could see that she would be one of the family.  Randy was coming to see us more often than he ever had before.  We were very happy to have her become family.  We love her and will miss her very much.

Nancy-our paths crossed when I was just out of college starting a job with a new firm.  However, the first day, you took away any fears I had.  You took me in as a mother.  From that day, I got to know your family, and they too became extended family to me.  You were the rock that held the office together and an inspiration to me.  As our paths departed and I started a new job, you too began your fight with cancer.  Your faith and strength just encouraged me more and put my life into perspective.  I have had two great friends pass away at a young age and now you.  But there is one thing that I have learned from this sorrow, "God only takes the best".  There is no doubt in my mind that God has given you his toughest project to manage.  And just like here on earth, you will succeed.  I will miss you but never forget.  Your Dear Friend Kevin Polasek

Precious Memories how they linger...One of my most favorite memories of Nancy would be when Nancy sang "On the Wings of a Dove" I know it was more than once and her voice was suited for it.  Thinking back on this it prompted me to look up the words.

When troubles surrounds us, When evils come,

I was surprised to see the verse because I look at "evil" as cancer. Her body may have grown weak but as she sang God never forgot her and sent his love through Randy, Dana, Janie, her mom and all those who knew Nancy.  I believe she always felt that love.  After Nancy became sick she claimed the word "Hope" and for 6 1/2 years she battled cancer Hope was ever present.  Now I know Nancy would not want this to be the final words said about her so here goes.

Nancy was Pam's best friend growing up so Nancy was over quite a bit.  Being the "little sister" that might be a bother at times, Nancy never made me feel unwanted.  Then one day my cousin Randy was in town and met Nancy.  I started realizing he was coming to OKC more often.  It was fun to see them rough house around in the living room.  They couldn't keep their hands off each other.  LOL.  She always had that smile and that ever present soft dimple when she was amused at something.  

When my dad passed away Nancy was in Oklahoma and she kept all the food organized and a list of people who brought things over.  She kept the kitchen clean and we couldn't have done it without her.  Randy and Nancy were a good team.  He said, "lets go" and she went.

Even after she became ill she never missed a wedding, Christmas Eve at the Rosses or a Reunion.  Nancy will be missed by all.

Randy, our prayers are with you. Nancy was a wonderful person. We all had some great times at The Met.

Randy, there are no words to express mine and Wade's sorrow for the lost of your precious wife.  We know that she is sitting by our Lord's side and we also know that He will give you the comfort and strength that you will need in the days ahead.  We love you Randy, Tere and Wade

I will always remember Nancy not so much for who she was, but for where she was. I can't really think of Christmas Eve with my mom's family without thinking of Randy and Nancy being there. They were there for our many readings of the Christmas story and the chaos that goes on when we actually open up our presents. They were even there the one year my Aunt Pam made us act out the Christmas story. I couldn't believe that we were actually doing that. I was sure it wouldn't go over so well. Randy and Nancy seemed to enjoy it though. It was always great to have them there and grow up with them and their daughters. When we are doing Christmas this year I will be thinking of Nancy and that constant smile she had on her face and the joy with which she lived life, but I know that even though she is not here with us that she is in a better place.
