Surviving polio as a teenager, Nancy attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. She relocated to Houston in 1966 when she joined Stewart Title as assistant to the president Stewart Morris Sr. She served the company in a number of roles through the years, primarily as Director of Communica-tions, and was elected a Vice President of the company.
Bert and Nancy met at Stewart Title and formed a dynamic partnership that mentored many future leaders within the company and the title insurance industry. Following a career hiatus in which she served as president of The Art League of Houston and of The Women’s Institute of Houston, Nancy continued her career with the Placer Title family of companies, headquartered in northern California.
All who knew “Bert and Nancy” were quickly drawn into their circle, enjoying Bert’s great cooking and Nancy’s warmth and ability to provide just the right advice needed at the time. In addition to their shared love of entertaining, sailing and travel, Nancy was an avid reader and adept at managing her investments. She spent many enjoyable hours with her friend/sister/”daughter” Jan Pilko and her dear friends in the Royal Oaks community discussing books, playing bunko and enjoying wine dinners. Nancy’s fa-mous hugs have brightened many a dark day for countless individuals.
The family will hold a private service, with arrangements handled by Geo. H. Lewis and Sons, and hope friends and family can come together to celebrate Nancy’s life at a lat-er date.
