Nancy Elizabeth McGuigan Mace, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister died on Sunday, April 26, 2015 after a long, well-lived life. Nancy was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on May 23, 1932. She was the daughter of Robert and Adella (“Mom”) McGuigan. Nancy grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with six brothers and sisters, Mary, Bobby, Janie, Tom, Sally, Joey and cousin Lou. Nancy attended the University of Pittsburgh. She then worked at Gulf Oil where she met her future husband, Charles Edward Mace. Nancy and Charlie were married on September 5, 1953 at Saint Raphael’s Catholic Church in Pittsburgh. After their wedding, they moved to Lyons, Kansas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Fort Worth, Texas; Roswell and Hobbs, New Mexico; Jackson, Mississippi and finally to Houston, Texas in 1973.
Nancy devoted her life to her loving husband, their four children and nine grandchildren. A faithful parishioner of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Nancy was a longtime member of the Women’s Club and a Eucharistic Minister. She treasured her many years volunteering at the Charity Guild. Generations of Fonn Villas’ neighbors have enjoyed Nancy’s ready smile and heartfelt support. She was a member of the Fonn Villas’ Women’s Club and played in many bridge clubs. Nancy faithfully provided comfort and care to friends and neighbors in their times of need.
Nancy was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jane Mace. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charlie; sons Bob and his wife, Odette; Tom and his fiancé, Heather Flynn; daughter, Elizabeth Causey and her husband, Rick; and nine grandchildren: Andrew Cardwell, Frank, John and Jim Mace; Janie Smith and her husband, Dusty; Chris and Ricky Causey; and Kaleigh and Ryan Flynn.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by The Most Reverend Vincent M. Rizzotto, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Galveston – Houston, and con-celebrated by Reverend Francis M. Macatangay will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, April 30, 2015 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church at 11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, Texas. Following a reception at the Church, The Rite of Committal will be at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston.
