Natalie was born in the Chappel Hill Texas hospital near Bellville, Texas on January 18, 1930, on a farm that was only reachable by horse and buggy. This was the coldest day ever recorded in that part of Texas. Her parents, William Frank Gorzycki and Mary Catherine Gorski Gorzycki, welcomed her as their youngest child. She passed on Wednesday, March 4th in the evening with her son by her side.
Natalie attended St. Mary’s Catholic School growing up and then moved on to Brenham High School. She worked many jobs before settling on one as the one-woman assistant at a doctor’s office where she decided that was the path she would take. She learned x-ray, lab work, and various other specialties training at the old Heights Hospital in Houston. During that time, she met her husband Calvin O. Kelling. Upon meeting him, she stated: “That is the man I will marry!” And she did.
After moving to Houston in the late 1950’s with her husband, she continued working her way up, eventually reaching the level of Executive Assistant for the Chairman of Baylor Neurosurgery where she retired after 20 years. Natalie served in many rolls in the Catholic Church over time including lecturer, Eucharistic Minister, and visiting at the local hospital and nursing home to pray with other parishioners.
Natalie was an avid traveler. She joked that she “has been everywhere except London, England.” Her most enjoyed trip was the one she took with the St. Rose travel group which included the pastor. They were able to visit many areas previously out of bounds that had opened during that time frame. She has many pictures showing the wonderful scenery surrounding the area.
Natalie was preceded in death by her husband and her youngest son Kevin Kelling as well as both her parents and all nine of her siblings. She is survived by her oldest son Mark Kelling of Houston, and Christine Kelling Janner of Brenham, as well and many of her friends and nieces and nephews.
Natalie is a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Houston.
Pallbearers include Mike Porterfield and Bryan Schack, both of Houston, Texas.
Her son Mark would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, caregivers, hospice workers, friends and all the others who helped show Natalie we all cared.
