

Nellie Jeanette Abernethy Molloy was born on January 13, 1933, in Cortland, NY, and passed away on January 11, 2013. She resided in Dryden, NY until 1944 with her parents; Gertrude Burch Abernethy and Robert Abernethy, and her beloved grandfather, Earl G. Burch. She moved to Rochester, NY in 1944, where she graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in Nursing in 1954. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Alpha Chapter at Syracuse University. Nellie was married in 1954 to Karl Molloy, who predeceased her. She had resided in Houston since 1968.
Nellie retired from nursing with VNA of Houston in 1998. She moved to Clear Lake in 2001, where she was an accomplished artist, active oil painter, and volunteer with the Friends of the Freeman Library.
Aside from many dear friends, she is survived by four children: Jacqueline Rook and Michael (spouse), Robert Molloy and Sandi (spouse), Charles Molloy and Debbie (spouse), and Kathryn Evans and Stuart (spouse); seven grandchildren: David Molloy, Christina Coffin, Robert Molloy, Eric Molloy, Jennifer Molloy, Elizabeth Evans, and Brian Evans; Four great grandchildren: William Molloy, Lilyana Coffin, Adelaide Molloy and Savannah Evans.
A memorial service will be held at Clear Lake United Methodist Church (Sanctuary), 16335 El Camino Real, Houston TX, 77062 on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to HSPCA (where she found her beloved cat, Tabitha), Lighthouse for the Blind, Friends of Freeman Library, or a charity of one’s choice.
