Nina was born on December 1, 1940, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and moved to Houston when she was three years old. She attended San Jacinto High School, where she played volleyball while working part-time at AT&T at night.
Throughout her career, Nina worked diligently, rising to the position of executive secretary at River Oaks Bank, where she excelled due to her lightning-fast typing skills. She also worked in sales for many years, earning trips and awards as a top sales agent. In her later years, she returned to AT&T and retired at the age of 70.
In 1966, Nina married Ed Peine, and they had two children, Lynette and Jason. She often said that having “one of each” was all she needed. Nina encouraged her children to explore a wide range of activities, ensuring they had opportunities to “try everything” and discover their own passions.
Nina was committed to healthy living, walking every day and maintaining a healthy diet, as well as strongly encouraging others to adopt similar habits. She was also deeply devoted to her faith, regularly attending the Encourager Church and participating in the prayer ministry. She was known for faithfully praying for others.
The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care Nina received in memory care at Atria Westchase, where she was supported tirelessly in her final years.
Nina is survived by her two children, Lynette Peine and Jason Peine, as well as her two nephews, Larry Jowell and Ronny Jowell. She was preceded in death by her elder brother, Tommy Jowell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
