Norris Cowles Jr. (1939-2016) passed to eternal life at his home in Kingwood after a brief illness, on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Norris was born in Mobile, Alabama and is preceded in death by his parents Norris and Marjorie Cowles, sister Carole Bayless, and beloved cousins Leroy and Maureen Jensen.
Norris is survived by the Love of his life, Sharon Cowles with whom he raised a beautiful family. He is also survived by his two sons, David McElmurry and Scott Cowles and two beautiful daughters, Jennifer Cowles Lorance and Leah Cowles Sheen. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Travis Sheen, Shane Cowles, Ashley McElmurry, Brianna Sheen, Jenna Lorance, Rebekah Fish, Landon Lorance, Rosie Moncada, and the newest little kids in his life, whom he loved from day one, Thomas, Kaylee, and Shelby King. He was such a loving family man and taught his grandchildren the value of family, the importance of giving back, and of course, that Blue Bell ice cream was indeed the Holy Grail. Norris is also survived by his sister Julie Cowles Veselka and husband George, brother-in-law Roscoe Bayless, brother-in-law Jim Oden and wife Joy, and many sweet nieces and nephews.
Norris was a very hard working individual and enjoyed a successful career in the Auto Industry. He spoke Spanish like a native, and served his country, as well as everyone he ever met. A lifelong Catholic, he devoted his life to serving his community and church, until he could no longer. He is a member of St. Martha Catholic Church and former longtime member of Christ the Redeemer.
While we are at peace knowing that Norris is resting easily with our Lord, the world has lost a wonderful, caring man and we know that the sun won’t shine quite the same without him here. The family wishes to thank Denise, Beverly, and Vanessa of Vitas Hospice for their loving care of our precious man, and our new friends Joe and Angela Arriaga. In order to honor this kind soul, we want to invite you to celebrate his life with us rather than mourn the loss of a loved one. Family will receive friends on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Brookside Funeral Home located at 13747 Eastex Freeway. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00pm in the Family Chapel of Brookside Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in Norris’s name.
