

Larry was born October 4, 1961 in Lagos, Nigeria to Michael Modupe and Esther Atinuke Johnson. As a young scholar, Larry attended Breadfruit Anglican Primary School in Lagos Nigeria. From there, Larry went on to attend high school at the Baptist Academy in Obanikoro and then completed his A levels at the Federal School of ARTS and Science in Victoria Island, Lagos Nigeria. Larry then went on to attend the University of Lagos, where he studied Biology with a specialization in Botany. Larry met the love of his life, Penileola ‘Penny’ Fashakin, at a party in London, England in the summer of 1985. Shortly after that, at the age of 26, Larry and Penny moved from Lagos Nigeria to Houston, Texas to start a family together. Larry’s education continued at Texas Southern University, where he completed his MBA and then went back to the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at TSU where he completed his Juris Doctorate degree. Larry was sworn into the State Bar of Texas in 1999 and shortly after, opened his own law practice called Larry Johnson and Associates at Law.
Larry served as a founding member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Dominion Chapel. Larry was a pilar in his community and was a part of many philanthropic, professional, and social organizations including: N.A.S., The Board, Eko Club, The State Bar of Texas, and African Bar Association, just to name a few.
Larry also received numerous recognitions from his community for his service, including the President Emeritus Excellence Award in 2022 from Eko Club Inc., the Executive Leadership Award in 2009, and was a part of the Constitution Committee that received the Outstanding Committee Award in 2007 from Eko Club.
Larry was preceded by his parents, Michael and Esther Johnson. He leaves behind his loving wife of 38 years, Penny Johnson, his children, Alicia, Jermaine, and Valerie Johnson, siblings Abiodun ‘Senior’ Johnson, Adenike Ajayi, Olatunde Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Larry Johnson was an honorable Attorney, Husband, Father and Friend, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and love him.
