

Oliver Porter Littlejohn, 90, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2017 surrounded by family. Oliver, or “Littlejohn”, as he preferred to be called, was born September 23rd in Irene, Texas to Oliver Porter Littlejohn, Sr. and Mittie Bailey Littlejohn. He graduated from Bynum High School in 1944, attended Navarro Jr. College, Austin College and was drafted into the Army. Upon his discharge, he returned to attend college at East Texas State University-Commerce and graduated with a Degree in Phys Ed and later received his master’s in education from Sam Houston State University.
After graduating from college, Oliver joined his family in Houston, TX where he met and married the love of his life, Georgia Andrews Littlejohn. He retired in 1990 as the Stadium Director of HISD’s Joe Kelly Butler Athletic Complex. He previously coached at Johnston and Lanier Junior High Schools and also served as Assistant Stadium Director of Delmar Stadium. Oliver had a passion for any and all sports from a very young age and always knew he wanted to play sports, eventually becoming a coach. He achieved numerous awards and recognitions for his sports abilities in basketball and baseball, was honored with sports scholarships to the colleges he attended and was inducted to the HISD’s Coaches Hall of Honor.
Oliver had a passion for people and for helping others. He was a Lifetime Committeeman with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a Member of the Masonic Gray Lodge #329, and the Shriners Arabian Temple. After his retirement, Oliver stayed active volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital serving popcorn and the Shriner’s Hospital shuttling children around for their treatments. He was actively involved in the Special Olympics each year organizing and hosting events. He and Georgia loved traveling, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends.
Oliver is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Georgia, his parents, and siblings, Sterling Littlejohn, Ralph Littlejohn and Ruth Littlejohn. He is survived by his children, Mark Littlejohn and wife, Cheryl, his daughter Christine (Chrissy) and husband, Joe Hagle, grandchildren Matt Littlejohn, Ben Littlejohn, Laura Littlejohn Lupton (Kevin) and Nicholas Hagle, his brother, J.P. Littlejohn, sisters-in-law Margie Andrews and Barbara Schroeder and numerous nieces and nephews of whom he loved dearly.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and residents of Silverado memory Care in The Woodlands for their sincere love and kindness they have shown him over the past year.
