Pim quietly transitioned on May 17, 2016. He was born in Whitehaven, England and raised in Houston, TX. Pim earned his BFA and MFA in Sculpture/Jewelry Design at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, Massachusetts.
He leaves his wife Carolyn, sister Beth, daughters Melanie and Sonya, son-in-laws Ted and Peter, grandchildren Luke, Maddie, Sammy, Caleb and Timmy, niece Melinda, nephew Miles, and his many close friends, as well as his beloved pups T-Pac – Tosh, Tucker, T-Bone, and Tillie.
In addition to his own work, Pim’s professional career included teaching in Massachusetts and Houston Community College in the Digital Communication Department and Metal Work in the Art Department. He also spent several years at the University of Houston as the Director of the UC Art Center, a community art space and studio on campus.
His work was published in Paper City Magazine, Southwest Arts Magazine and Vogue Magazine.
Pim always put others before himself. His kind spirit was never too tired to listen and to lend a helping hand. His life was a message of love, kindness, compassion, tolerance and inclusion for everyone he crossed paths with.
Pim was a true artist with a pure heart who took care of his family and friends. His spirit, his artwork, his students, his teaching, and how he worked always immersed in creativity will remain a true inspiration to all of us. He is greatly missed by his family, relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, his family request that all contributions be made to the Houston Hospice in loving memory of Oliver Pim Ormrod. Alternatively, a Pim Ormrod Memorial Art Scholarship will be created in honor of Pim. Please contact his family for additional information.
