On August 23rd 2017 in the wee hours of the morning, Patricia Ann Davis joined the Heavens with a heart full of love and free from all pain. She never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all she touched.
Patricia was born on July 15th 1952 in Houston, Texas to James Arthur and Elizabeth Jane (Lindsay) Nord. Growing up in Ganado, Texas, Patty tried keeping up with her two older sisters and did everything she could to be by their side. She loved to be in the kitchen with her mother and would sit in her daddy’s pickup truck and wait for him to come climb in and say ‘Let’s go Patsy!’ Through her childhood and high school years, Patricia played sports and was an all American girl. In her later years of high school, Patty met Larry. After finishing school, Patty and Larry were inseparable. They were married on July 8th 1972 and made their move to the big city of Houston. Patty went to nursing school and began working at OB GYN and Associates where she would serve her community working for over thirty physicians in women’s health. This part of her career lasted over twenty years helping as an admin and assisting the docs.
In 1977, Patty began her favorite journey in this life when she gave birth to Garrett Edward. He made her a mother and from then on it was her life’s mission to ensure that her children were loved, supported and always had their biggest supporter at home and in the stands. And, boy, did she succeed! Patty was just beside herself giddy with joy that she and Larry had created a son. Sharing the news with her daddy that he would have another boy in the family after all the woman he had been surrounded by, made her glow. Five short years later, Patty added Lindsay-Nicole Ann to the mix and their family was complete.
In 1989, the family moved to Stafford, Texas where they reside today. Patty was so thrilled to have her brand new home and filled it with memories that all of her loved ones will never forget. From birthday parties to sports parties, the hang out for after school dances, homecomings and proms, graduations and most of all holidays. Her home was the hub for family and friends. All were welcome at all times. Her favorite though was Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanksgiving, well, to give thanks of course, and watch her boys in blue (Cowboys). And, Christmas, to watch the faces of all who opened her gifts. She’d much prefer to give than receive and always made sure everyone had equal amounts…..down to the penny especially to not put one kid over the other! The house was decorated from top to bottom on the inside and out. For these special events she cooked for days leading up to and prided herself on her family’s recipe and particular cooking instructions for her homemade stuffing, one that she got to teach and make with her second son, Trey, who will carry on her tradition.
When arriving in Stafford, Patty joined the First United Methodist Church of Missouri City. Patty’s spirit was full after hearing the message from her favorite Pastors and listening to the Chancel Choir on Sundays, and especially full when Lindsay played in the bell choir. Patty wasn’t much of a singer, but enjoyed the music so much she could look through the hymnal for hours hearing the melodies in her mind of the different hymns that reminded her of so many memories, past and present. Patty and Larry started their cooking adventures and for years cooked on Sundays for the Methodist Youth Fellowship group, just as they would for many groups to come. Everyone knew they would be well fed either at the Davis House, being a roommate of Garrett’s or in the apartments after Lindsay’s college volleyball home games. As her children grew, there was lots of time spent at the Astrodome where she adored taking her little Astros buddies to the games each season as well as to the Houston Rodeos and Rodeo Cook-offs hanging out with the Goody Girls.
In 1994, Patty was given her biggest challenge in life when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had to fight hard through surgery, reconstructive surgery, chemo and radiation. She never let up, and, hair or no hair, she kept her head held high and rocked her fancy scarves like no other. After all, her star quarterback had recently emerged and she would not allow this disease to take her away from that, not even for a second. She became a SURVIVOR. Well before, during and long after this battle, she never missed not one game of football, volleyball, basketball, softball, cross country meet, track meet, swim meet or cheerleading competition – she was front and center for it ALL.
As Patty started retirement, she retreated back to her other boys, her beloved Astros and Cowboys. Patty and Larry spent time making new memories and creating new friendships that have become a second family to them in the past few years. Patty joined a shuffleboard team and looked forward to tournaments and Friday night blind draw. In 2005 Patty received her final title, Grammy. She excitedly and patiently waited as her six grandchildren were brought in to this world. Grammy loved each and every one of them and loved watching her children start this journey. Patty recently celebrated her 45th anniversary with her beloved husband and life partner, Larry. She cherished every moment by his side and will continue to eternally celebrate the union that made all of her joys in this life possible.
