She was born in Ft. Benning, Georgia on November 16, 1935. She was the daughter of Ansley and Eunice Eva Smith. Patsy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Joe (Coach) McDonald, daughter Kim McDonald, son Keavin McDonald, and daughter-in-law Sally McDonald; and siblings, Louise Perry, Margarete Willis, Bertram Smith, and Charles Smith.
Patsy is survived by her son, Kelly McDonald, daughters-in-law, Eva McDonald and Karen McDonald, grandchildren Joe McDonald, Jake & Kelly McDonald, Julia McDonald, Abbie and James Kolb, Zach and Marissa McDonald, Allison and James Bartlett, and her great-grandchildren Lane McDonald, Rhett McDonald, Johnny Kolb, William Kolb, Olivia McDonald, James McDonald and Ansley Bartlett.
Patsy’s early life was spent in Georgia growing up with her twin brother and siblings. She made her way to Texas after having met Joe McDonald while he was in the service. They married and settled in Houston where they started their family. Much of Patsy’s early marriage years were spent as team mom for the St. Thomas High School players from 1961-1977, while her husband coached. She participated in many H Association activities such as football games, golf tournaments, road trips, retreats at Columbia Lakes, and tailgating events with a large group of letterwinners, their spouses and families creating many fond and fun memories.
She was known to be the “life of the party!” Patsy (Nanny) thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching them play sports, attending dance recitals, and enjoying their weddings. She was so fortunate to have spent special moments with her seven great-grandchildren.
Patsy’s vibrant, larger-than-life personality touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her fun-loving spirit will be deeply missed and cherished.
