Patti was born the 23rd of May 1939, in Houston and was an adored only child. Raised by her mother, Libby Sue Wilkes, and her maternal grandparents, Harold and Vestal Wilkes, Patti grew into a bright, inquisitive, fun-loving young woman, attending Stephen F. Austin High School and the University of Texas at Austin. During high school, she met the love of her life, John K. “Jack” Dozier on a blind date. They married in 1960 and together they raised three children.
Family and friends were her top priority always. She was happiest with the people she loved gathered around her, enjoying good food, games and camaraderie. Animals, including American Saddlebred horses, were a particular passion, and she passed that love of all things furry on to her children and grandchildren. She raised many young horses who went on to have great success at horse shows across the country.
She enjoyed working in her yard, volunteering her time at her children’s schools and at Briarwood School, and entertaining friends and family with her delicious cooking. She was involved in many bridge groups over the years with lifelong friends. She also worked in Jack’s medical office, keeping his orthopedic practice running smoothly.
Nature always fascinated her as well. The mountains of Colorado were a special draw for family vacations. She thoroughly enjoyed hiking and exploring, even given her fear of heights. She delighted in later years that she had a front-row seat at her home watching a pair of nesting bald eagles. She was a lifelong learner whose curiosity never dimmed.
She is predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Jack Dozier, her stepsister Ann Lee Walker, her parents Libby Sue Wilkes Walker Denison and Juane Bobo, and son-in-law Mark Hamlin. She is survived by daughter Jana Dozier Sansbury and her husband Tim and their children Hallie and Will Sansbury of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter Lisa Dozier of Sugarland, Texas; son Scott Dozier and his wife Kim of Pearland, Texas and their children Jordan and Christopher Dozier, along with their mother Crystal Curia; Kirsten Kubicek Estes and husband Bryce of Pearland, Texas; Kailee Kubicek Basso and her husband Tyler and son Weston of Pearland, Texas; and Keaton Kubicek of Odessa, Texas. She is also survived by many loving, loyal friends whose company she enjoyed til the end.
The family would like to thank Houston Hospice for their care and support during the last days.
A funeral service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 1st of November, in the chapel of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston. Immediately following all are invited to greet the family during a reception at the church.
