He attended St. Michael Catholic School, Bishop Forest High School, Wharton County Junior College and the University of Houston. While attending the University of Houston, he met Virginia Lidiak. They were married May 3rd, 1969, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange, Texas. Paul and Virginia were blessed with two children, Jennifer and Anthony.
After graduating from U of H, his career in Civil Engineering spanned more than 50 years. He started on a survey crew while in college and retired from Benchmark Engineering in January of 2024. Paul always enjoyed his work and was always proud to say, “I worked on that subdivision, golf course, parking lot, water system,” and more throughout the Houston area. He also served in various roles on HOAs and local MUD boards during his career.
Paul was a devout Catholic and a charter member of St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church in Houston. There he served in many ministries, on various committees and was a life member of Knights of Columbus Council #7136.
Describing Paul as a loving and supportive father and grandfather is an understatement. He was quick to encourage, and his embraces always included a loving pat on the back. Paul enjoyed attending his children’s and then grandchildren’s school and sports activities which included watching swimming, volleyball, ballet, orchestra, band, choir concerts, and even coaching baseball.
Throughout his life, Paul was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved bird watching, gardening, grilling, and spending quality time with his family. Paul loved spending time at the bay in Rockport, Texas watching sunsets with family and friends. At home, Paul could always be found on his backyard swing, where countless family discussions were held, along with stories of growing up in Weimar.
