Pauline Augustin Benjamin, affectionately known as Metris, was born in the Village of Micoud on the beautiful Island of St. Lucia in the West Indies on July 2nd. She was the sixth of eight children born to Maria Augustin, whom she lost at the tender age of 15. She attended the Micoud Infant and Primary Schools. Upon completion, she became an apprentice to Mrs. Laurence Descartes, who was the village seamstress, becoming a master freehand dressmaker. In pursuit of greater opportunities and a brighter future for her four children, Julius, Denis, Theresa, and Felix, she emigrated to St. Croix, Virgin Islands, in December of 1966. It was there she met and married her now-deceased husband of thirty-plus years, Heartsille E. Benjamin Sr., aka Benji. That union produced four children: Christina, Heartsille III, Jislaine, and Elisa. Pauline was a government employee at Juan F. Luis Hospital for thirty-two years until her retirement in 1997.
Pauline is preceded in death by her Husband, Heartsille E. Benjamin and brother Jacob Owen Augustin. She is also survived by her siblings, Josephine Fedorah Frederick and Timothy Bascom Augustin along with her children, Julius Augustin, Denis Augustin, Theresa Augustin, Felix Williams, Christina Benjamin-Serieux, Heartsille E. Benjamin III, Jislaine Benjamin-Brown, Elisa Hanson-Linton, 12 Grandchildren, 4 Great-Grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
