

Born to Myrna Pauline Menefee Arnold and Henry Kirkpatrick Arnold in Houston, Texas, Pete attended River Oaks Elementary School, Lanier Middle School and Lamar High School before earning a liberal arts degree from Smith College. She returned to Houston where she met and married Ballard "Mac" MacDougal Burgher II.
Her three children were born in Lafayette and New Orleans, Louisiana before the family returned to Houston in 1966. She was active in the River Oaks Garden Club, the Junior League of Houston and served many years at the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department.
After her divorce, she earned a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Houston Clear Lake and later set up a successful psychotherapy practice. Pete married Henry Irving Schweppe, Jr. and enjoyed many happy years with him.
A passionate lover of music, she supported Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet and Houston Chamber Choir. Pete also served on the vestry and was a founding supporter of Brigid's Place at Christ Church Cathedral, and additionally was a friend of Bill W.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Irving Schweppe, Jr.; children, Mary Stewart Burgher, Ballard MacDougal Burgher III and wife, Mary Meyerson and Martha Burgher Plunkett and Jack W. Plunkett; stepchildren, Anne Schweppe Ashmun and Jane Schweppe; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Leon Burgher; step grandchildren, Laura and Stuart Ashmun; and dear friend, Sue Barnum. The family's thanks go to Lydia Flores, Alecia Williams, Amelia Page, Sid Gerber, the staff of Autumn Leaves of Meyerland and Houston Hospice for their loving care.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 29th of July, at Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Avenue in Houston, where The Very Reverend Barkley S. Thompson, Dean of Christ Church Cathedral Houston, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in a venue to be announced during the service.
