During the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 23 2025, Peggy JoAnn Faulk peacefully completed her earthbound tenure and took her celestial leave.
Mrs. Peggy, as nearly everyone called her, endured 33,507 days on Earth as a stoic example of patience and a staunch believer in all that is right and good, a true blessing and a guiding light for the lives she impacted.
Born to John "Herman" and Wilma Smith July 28th 1933 in Gouldbusk, TX. Peggy JoAnn Smith was the only child and daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Smith. This was of no consequence to Peggy however as her Mother Wilma had many siblings. All of whom chose to stay close to the Coleman, Texas area near Gouldbusk. Peggy lived a life rich with Aunts, Uncles and cousins all pitching in to help keep Grandad Bowen's farm acreage a flourishing provision during the time of America's Great Depression. When most of the US was lacking in the most basic staple needs; the Bowens and Smiths were not. It was from the memories Peggy forged the framework of her good and giving heart.
As Peggy grew, being the only child of a side boom operator, she learned a lot about the sacrifice involved with "being where the work is". She travelled around the United States until injury settled the Smith family just outside of Houston, Texas in the suburb of Galena Park, Texas.
Peggy graduated from Galena Park High School in 1952, where she enjoyed playing basketball and studying economics. Not long after high school graduation, she met a blue-eyed oilfield mechanic named Calvin H. Faulk. It wasn't long before Calvin, a World War II Navy veteran, asked for Peggy's hand in marriage to which she gleefully accepted.
Peggy and Calvin were able to only have one child, John Nelson Faulk, born November 28, 1955. John would become to be known as "Woody" to friends and family as a rememberance to Peggy's uncle Woodrow.
Peggy made the decision to become a full time mother and housewife, leaving her job at a small insurance company called Mutual Holdings which would become later known as Mutual of Omaha. Peggy never looked back with regret upon her decision to leave the workforce.
Medically unable to bear more children, Peggy and Calvin turned their hardship to purpose by sponsoring and fostering 32 infants and newborns over the span of a decade. They provided these babies with the love and nurturing kindness that would have otherwise been unknown to them had it not been for Peggy.
In December of 1966, Peggy and Calvin fostered infant number 16 for an unprecedented 8 months in length, creating an inseparable familial bond so strong that Peggy and Calvin decided to make James A. Faulk a permanent member of their family. They then continued to foster another 15 children alongside their two sons, leaving a legacy of love for those less fortunate.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents John "Herman" Smith and Wilma Smith; her husband Calvin H. Faulk; and her son John "Woody" Faulk. Peggy is survived by her son James A. Faulk; grandsons James P. and Erik J. Faulk and wife Meaghan; and 2 great-grandchildren Paige and River Faulk.
A funeral service for Peggy will be held Monday, May 5, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services, 7010 Chetwood, Houston, TX 77081. Following the funeral service will be a graveside from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at San Jacinto Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 14659 East Fwy, Houston, TX 77015.
