
I knew Lan for over 30 years. She started cutting my hair when I was just a little boy, small enough that I needed a booster seat. I was a fussy child, but I trusted Lan. I stayed with her through the moves and through the years. Even when I moved away for college, I would make the trip home every month to get my hair cut by Lan. 

Over the decades Lan became more than my barber. She became my friend. We talked about the good times and the bad. She worried about me during the hard times after graduation, and congratulated me when I got my first promotion. 

It hurts to think that I’ll never see her again. Perhaps I will, some time, some place. I wish I knew where her ashes will be interred so that I could say goodbye to her. Wherever she is, she’ll always be in my heart. Love you and miss you, Lan. I’ll make you proud. 

Lan was a gracious lady and an artist at hair styling.  She was always smiling and caring about her clients.  She will be surely missed.  Be at peace, dear friend.

Lan was one of Gods gifts to us.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.  I loved her smile when she did my hair,  Her memory will always be a blessing.

Lần sau cùng chúng tôi nói chuyện về việc nấu bánh chưng và việc các em trong tiệm rủ cô đi ăn chung ở Bellair. Đặc biệt cô nói về việc cô sẽ về thăm gia đình ở Seattle. Hình như cô không làm được theo ý nguyện chuyến đi này. Dầu vậy gia đình cũng rõ tấm lòng của cô.

Co Lan,

You have been taken away from us too soon and too suddenly. I was looking forward to your yearly visits to Washington and was told about your condition. We are blessed to have you in our lives. You embraced us with your kindness, love, and compassion. Whenever you visited, I always looked forward to our conversation. You always remind me of how dangerous my job was, and I appreciate that you always cared. I'm so glad when Cindy and I visited Texas, you had a chance to meet her family. That night was a great night, and I will always cherish that night. Growing up, I remember you taking us to the grocery store with grandma in your Oldsmobile. You introduced me to different Vietnamese desserts when I was a kid. These are some of the best memories I shared with you. I will miss you.

Hey Bac Lan,

Every time you came to visit us, I knew I can count on you to pack your "Seattle" pajamas. You wore them every night and you wore them proudly. And you always cut our hair because you wanted to. 

We had wonderful conversations ranging from shopping at Uwajimaya and eating sushi to wondering when I was going to finish schooling. When I colored my hair, you said that I looked like a parrot.

I'll never stop missing you and thank you for being such an amazing aunt. I am glad that I was able to talk to you in person one last time.

It is sad we lost you so soon Co Lan and it is unfortunate my kids and Tony’s kids never got a chance to know you like we did growing up visiting everyone in Madison and living with you at the Orcas house. I remember a specific time when we lived in Kenosha and came to babysit us for the weekend  you made Mi Goi and put mushrooms in it. It was so disgusting  and slimy but I wanted you to not be mad at me so I ate it all. Because of that I have always hated mushrooms but on a positive note it always reminded me of how happy you were to see me eat it ALL.  

You are in a better place now with Ong, Ba , your brothers and other ancestors. We love you and one day we will all be together. ❤️

Dear Bac Lan,

We were not prepared for your sudden passing but we know you are no longer in pain. Family gatherings will not be the same without you but we will do our best to keep your memory alive. Your kindness and compassion will be missed greatly. I wished Noah and Charlotte had the chance to meet you. We love you so much Bac Lan.
