Raul Garza Sanchez

Raul Garza Sanchez, 82, son of Teresa Garza and Ramon Sanchez passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, June 9, 2011. He is preceded in death by his sister Lupe, brothers; John, Raymond, Angel, Nick "Rat Pack Houston Chapter, together again" and his beloved dog, Dukie. Raul is survived by his loving sister, Beatrice G. Galvan, his daughters, Gloria M. Sanchez and Margarete Sanchez-Ripps, Margarete's husband, Geoff and numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends. As a member of the Merchant Marine he traveled the world for more than 50 years until his retirement. But it was the Sanchez family gatherings that were his greatest source of joy and pride. His huge heart,his love of family and their love for him is best described by his nephew, Nick: Uncle Roy, The Great Solid Steel, a Merchant Marine, artist and worldwide adventurer who got more out of life than we'll ever know. His heart was huge and had nothing but love for his family and of course, Dukie and Bess. He loved us all and i will always proudly carry his great spirit and memory forever. Love you Uncle Roy! Raul would have been 83 on June 23. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 from 3-9 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2405 Navigation at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
