

On October 27, 1949, in Lake Charles, LA. God had blessed the late Mr. Eddie Carter Sr. and Rosetta Ceaser -Carter with a son who they named James Carter. At the age of four James moved to Houston, TX where he attend public school, graduating from Booker T. Washington Senior High. He had the drive and motivation and dedication to continue his education at Houston Community College for Business. He received a Bachelor's Degree from University of Houston in Criminal Justice. Law enforcement was ultimate goal and he was accepted at Harris County Sheriff Department Academy to become a certified peace officer. He attended Sam Houston State University to become certified state of Texas Law Enforcement corrections and detention officer and Crime prevention specialist. He served in United States Air Force and Air National Guard, Labor and Relation. He was a small business owner. He worked 26 years in law enforcement which included 4 years as a Deputy Constable and 22 years at the Harris County Sheriff Department. The last 18 years with Harris County Sheriff Department he worked in the alcohol, drug and substance abuse program as a sergent/supervisor. He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of 44 years Mary Louise Carter, four loving children, La Tarcha Davis, Yolanda Hardison, Sharhonda (Charles) Jones, and James Carter Jr., six grandchildren, Kelnysha (Sterling), Tishona, La Brecha, Marquis, Jacob, Charles Jr., two great-grandchildren, Sa Kailei and J'nyia, two brothers Eddie Jr. (Rose) Carter and Tommy Carter and two sisters, Mary Grant and Corrine Carter, and host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Service Honoring the Life of Sgt. Carter will be held Monday, September 16, 2013. His remains will lie in repose beginning at 9:00am. The Life Celebration will follow beginning at 11:00am. Services will be held at Greater Zion Baptist Church 1620 Dollywright St., Houston, Texas 77088, where Rev. Dale Perry is Pastor. Sgt. Carter's Pastor, Rev. Murphy Malone, of the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Officiating. Rev. Gerald Keene, Eulogist. Sgt. Carter's earthly tabernacle shall rest in the Houston National Cemetery, with a Gatetime of 1:45pm.
