REYNALDO SEGUNDO GARZA, SR., 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on May 27, 2021. He was born on January 16, 1928 in Millett, TX to Segundo Garza and Elvira (Botello) Garza.
Rey was preceded in death by his wife Olga G. Garza, his son Reynaldo S. Garza, Jr. and his daughter Linda Garza. He is survived by his children Dora Chaparro, Rebecca Spaulding, Martha Vasquez and husband Mario, his grandchildren Joseph Smith and wife Nicole, Denise (Chaparro) Fizia and husband Chris and Monica Vasquez, great-grandchildren Austin Smith and wife Lorena, Evan Smith, Lauren Smith and Mario Reynaldo Tafolla and brother-in-law Roy Gonzalez and wife Dawn. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rey served his country, serving in the United State Army from 1946-1947. He married the love of his life, Olga in 1950 and moved to Houston in 1954. Together they raised five children who are forever indebted to their parents for all of their love and support. He spent his career with Exxon and owned/operated a service station in the River Oaks area for many decades. He was a man of faith, honesty, honor, respect, and dignity. Always putting his wife and family first in all that he did. His unwavering support and love for them was his greatest pride and joy. He loved to laugh and tell stories from “back in the day” and if you listened carefully you walked away with a bit of wisdom and knowledge. His legacy will forever live on in his family as they carry forward and pass on to the next generations the wisdom and love he shared with them.
The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Vivian Rodriguez, for her steadfast guidance, skill, support, commitment, compassion, and strength in overseeing his care for these many years. To all of the staff at Elmcroft-Braeswood, where he resided, our family cannot express into words how much we greatly appreciate all of the devotion, comfort, kindness, care and respect you provided to him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to
Bel-Inizio, Inc. (www.bel-inizio.org) or Snowdrop Foundation (www.snowdropfoundation.org).
