Richard Joe, a native Houstonian, passed away on October 6, 2020. He was a kind, devoted husband of 30 years to his long-time sweetheart Barbara and the loving father of two beautiful children, Kelsey and Nicholas. Richard was born on April 30, 1962 to Tommy and Nancy Joe. In his younger years, he played many sports such as softball, baseball and basketball and enjoyed activities including hunting and fishing. Growing up, he helped his parents in the family grocery business where he developed his strong work ethic.
Richard graduated from the University of Houston earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance in 1986. He successfully worked for several prominent firms in Houston and Philadelphia, which gave him the opportunity to travel to numerous countries around the world. After working in the corporate world for over 25 years, he decided to act upon his entrepreneurial spirit and start his own business in the sign and graphics industry. He found great success and satisfaction in this new venture which led him to open a second location a few years later.
Richard was a hard worker but found his greatest joy in spending time with his family. He was an active participant in his children’s lives and attended countless soccer and lacrosse games, dance recitals, orchestra concerts and school activities. He relaxed by cooking on the weekends, always wanting to try the latest recipes and cooking techniques he had learned on the Food Network. He enjoyed taking family vacations and travelling to many fun and exciting places. On his latest adventure, he journeyed to South Africa where he had the experience of a lifetime. He always had an infectious smile and could find a way to make others laugh.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Barbara, daughter Kelsey Lynn, son Nicholas Richard, parents Tommy and Nancy Joe, brothers Leland and David and his wife Jeannie, along with numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Richard touched many lives and will be deeply missed by family and friends all over the world.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Chinese Baptist Church, 900 Brogden Road, Houston, TX 77024.
