It is still hard to believe that you are gone. Jesse and I were just thinking about you last week. We’ve known you since you were little. It feels like a dream. Taken too young from your wife and family. I hope you’re dancing in the sky. I hope you’re singing in the angels choir. I know you’re in beautiful peace. I knew Richard from my years of experience as a customer at the Foodtown on FM529.  Richard was always friendly, helpful, and professional.  On one occasion when entering the store Richard came running out of the store after a shoplifter who had stolen a basket of groceries, I assisted Richard in chasing the guy down and recovering the stolen groceries.  Afterwards we both looked at each other, tired and out of breath, and said...were not as young as we used to be. What a great guy, he will be missed so much. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

Words cannot express how much you are and will be missed! Now you are at peace with God watching over us.  
Richard has known me since I was 7 years old or so, I'm 41 now! He was a man of few words, but he thought everything was funny! His laugh and phrases he would say were hilarious. My fondest memory of him was when he would come over to our house and play duck hunt on my Nintendo with me. He always treated me as one of his little sister's and for that I will be forever grateful.  I love you and miss you dearly. Until we meet again .

The Family was blessed to have had you among us these many years, although too few.  As a child, when Andrew and I would visit or stay at your house, I felt like I had two big brothers and life was good.  Your kindness was true then and no doubt others felt it throughout your life, none more than Silvia and your children, your family.  My heart is broken, but also Better for having shared laughs and childhood memories with you and your sisters...for being proud that my cousin was Richard Lara III,  named after his father and our Grandfather...for your example of what it looks like to work hard and provide for your family. My sweet classmate in 3 classes  each of my 3 years at Sam Houston High school.  I remember him, always  running in to class wearing his baseball uniform.   and in all classes we exchanged messages,  in those little folded up paper envelopes  we all made those days.
  All our messages were:
 Did you see her today?, do you think she likes me?, we are going to military ball together,  yay!!!    Silvia,  Silvia, He was so in love.    I  can honestly say this boy had more than a crush.!!!
 You did it Richard,  you got the girl of your dreams.   

Richard Lara an honest to goodness Great Man, Father,  Son. Husband,  Friend.   I know  for sure the heavens are rejoicing  in your honor.

My big brother,

I never thought this day would come, at least not now. We were suppose to all grow old together. I wish I had more time with you. I miss you so much. I miss the big, tight hugs you would give me, I miss your beautiful smile, and your laugh. I love you Popeye, my big brother. I love you more than worlds would ever express.   Never in my life would I have ever imagined our love story would be cut short. We had so many more memories to share.  My heart is broken but I thank God for all the days we had. You were the best Dad and husband. When we got married you promised me the world and you gave it to me.

I met Richard when I was a teenager and so was he. I also met Silvia at that time. He was so sweet and had a big smile. Years later, he and Silvia married and then they came to my wedding, and then they had their first son. I recall a time together in Austin, Tx, when Richard and Silvia and their boys came to visit and our son was less than a year old. I don't recall if it was a holiday or not, but it was a great time. He still had that big ole smile! I'll always remember his big smile and kind heart.

On Behalf of myself and my parents Humberto and Belia Garza our deepest sympathy and condolences to the Lara-Lopez family. Richard was a kind hearted and hardworking man. I always admired his good spirits and dedication to his wife and children. He will be missed  dearly. Never let go of all the memories and have comfort that you now have an angel looking after your family. We continue to pray for your strength and healing.   

I'll miss you my friend.  We grew up together through school,  work, and gatherings.  I remember the late nights mopping the floors at food city as high school students.  I remember Richie chasing would be shoplifters (I always thought that was crazy) but he was always dedicated to his job. What a great guy, always there to help if he could. He helped raise a great family and i will always have the respect and honor of being his friend 

Rest in peace richard, my thoughts are with the Lara family .I met richard through  foodtown ,didn't know him very well but the few times I helped out at his store he was pretty cool 

I still remember you inviting us over to see the suoerbowl 2007 Colts vs Bears. The Lara family welcomed us with open arms and I will never forget you or Silvia for that.. heck u even invited us for new years and we went.. Words can't explain the way I feel but I do miss, love and respect u as a man.. Richie is 1 of a kind guy and I am honored to call myself ur bro...

I met Richard 7 yrs ago at FoodTown. Richard was a good co worker and friend. Enjoyed the times we hung out especially when we went to baseball games and had some beers 🍻. I will miss you my friend. 

I met Richard and Silvia back in 2005 and since then we were inseparable. The Lara’s were my best friends. We hung out and vacationed together a lot. Always fun never a dull moment! 

 I have so many great memories of him but my favorite is when we went to California in 2014. We had a great time! The best part of that vacation is when we got in trouble. We didn’t care though.....we laughed so much about it and even after that. I’m going to miss you BFF. I already miss the phone calls or text messages from you. Some mornings I go through my phone and read our messages. I have a lot of great memories and so happy that I met you. You’re a great man! Until we see each other again Rest In Peace my BFF 💔😢


Sylvia and I have been friends since middle school and we were also teammates on the diamond.  She taught me to speak Spanish in the outfield (lol).   

My favorite memory was watching the relationship bloom between Richard & Sylvia in HS.  They had a special love from the beginning and I’ve admired the two of you and your admiration for each other over the years.  Prayers for all of you - although we haven’t spent time together for many years.....you’re always in my heart.  Hugs always sweet friend, Sharon. 

I worked with Richard at Foodtown and knew him for 20 plus years. He was a good man and someone you could always count on for pretty much anything. He will be missed   

In life you hope to meet people who are genuinely good. Richard and Sylvia are those kind of people. It was an honor to have known Richard as a fellow Sam Houston classmate and graduate. God bless the Lara family and may you always be graced with  Richard’s spirit.

I just wanted to give my condolences to the family and friends of Richard. I knew Richard growing up and even went to school with him. He was always a very nice person and a all around great guy. He will be missed but not forgotten. May God bless everybody who will be going through this hard time and I pray God brings comfort and peace to all as well.

Richard was like a friend that I had known my entire life even  though it had only been a short while,  but that’s how he made you feel with his presence.  You will be greatly missed my friend. I wish we could of made that deer hunting trip late last year, I know that with your company alone it would have been a success.. Until we meet again.

I have two..we met at Food City and worked together as asssitants. We use to go to the nearby Taco Cabana and eat after working late and have a "couple" of margaritas.  We really got to know each other and built a great friendship. We also hooked up a few years ago for dinner and had a great time and did a lot of catching up. You will be missed brother.

I'm so terribly sad that the world has lost such a magnificent person. I don't think I ever was able to express my gratitude to you for teaching me such great work ethic. You are still an inspiration in my life for growing personally and professionally. I am so grateful that our lives crossed paths when they did. This is just so hard to believe. I’ve know Richard since he was a baby. My kids knew him. He went to school with them. He was a kind and warm hearted person. Always acknowledged us anywhere we would see him. I grew up with his dad and aunts. Richard, we will miss you so much. Rest in the arms of Jesus. May God comfort the family and bring peace to their hearts. In Jesus mighty name amen.

One of the most memorable vacations I've ever taken was a trip to Mexico in  2015 with a group of friends which included the Lara's.  Richard was always ready for pictures with friends and with his family.  He was one of the nicest people I've ever known and noone could make you laugh more than Richard, even if it was at his expense........the glass door. I hope this memory brings a smile and maybe a chuckle to the Lara family.  Richard is greatly missed. 

Richard was a great person to be around, always smiling and very friendly.  Him and his wife definitely looked like best friends and  deeply in love. I wish we would have had more time to get to know each other, but I can definitely say by how much your kids love you that you where the real deal. Rest in peace my friend.  My God carry you home and lift your family up.

Richard was a kind, humble and hardworking man that was highly respected as my friend. We worked together for a year and he lit up my day when we worked side by side.

The news of his passing was shocking.

He worshipped his family and the mention of his wife or kids or parents or siblings always brought a big smile to his face.

He was a good, good man and I cannot comprehend the devastation brought upon you all as his family.
