

Rick Van Sloten was born December 13, 1951 in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Henry and Ann (Huenink) Van Sloten. He was raised in rural Hawarden and resided there many years of his life. Rick was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hawarden, Iowa.
He married Wanda Jean Koerselman of Sioux Center, Iowa, on May 25, 1974. They made their home in Hawarden where they owned and operated Central Catering for 15 years. Over the next 16 years Rick also worked for Hawarden Golf Club and Sandy Hollow Golf Course in managerial roles. In 2012 he and Wanda moved to Richmond Texas, where they owned and operated a pool maintenance service.
Rick passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at West Houston Medical Center in Houston, Texas. He was 61 years old.
He is survived by his wife Wanda of 39 years; his son Dustin Van Sloten and his wife Katie of Macomb, Illinois; his daughter Aubrey Van Sloten and her partner Don Hardeman Jr. of Richmond, Texas; his mother Ann Van Sloten of Hawarden; his brothers and their wives: Don and Verla Van Sloten of Ireton Iowa, Henry and Lori Van Sloten of Hawarden; his sister and her husband, Deb and Bill De Jong of Hawarden; and his granddaughter Jadesyn Hardeman of Richmond, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Van Sloten.
Rick enjoyed cooking, sports, and playing golf. He will be remembered for his smile, work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, humor, and willingness to help others.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the United Methodist Church of Hawarden, Iowa.
