Robert Hamilton Dale Jr., 86 years of age, born on the 12th of May 1925, passed away peacefully on the 20th of November 2011 in Houston, Texas, surrounded by family members. Robert (Bobby) was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marjorie (Margo) Crump Dale, and his parents, Robert Hamilton Dale, Sr. and Harriet Dale.
Born in Houston, Mr. Dale was a graduate of Lamar High School, where he faithfully attended school reunions with life-long friends. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and obtained a Bachelor of Business Studies. He proudly served his country in WWII as a member of the U.S. Navy. After graduating from college, Robert H. Dale, Jr. dedicated nearly his entire working career to Dixie Carries, now the Kirby Corporation, and the company was the next great love of his life after his family and friends. Mr. Dale was the Executive Vice President of Dixie Carriers and served as a Director for several decades alongside its Chairman and his lifelong friend, George Peterkin, Jr. The history of Dixie Carriers and the Kirby Corporation’s marine transportation business can be traced back to the 1940’s and Robert Hamilton Dale, Jr. was dedicated to its success.
Robert H. Dale, Jr. and his wife Margo were not only devoted to their family, but to a close group of friends they enjoyed for more than a half a century, by celebrating their friendship each month at “Supper Club”, a monthly dinner hosted by one couple of the group.
