Robert Nathaniel Erby Jr. was born on March 11, 1964, in Pontiac, MI, to Robert N. Erby Sr. and Della Erby, both of whom preceded him in death.
Robert attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Mumford High School in 1982. He was a loving son, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend, known for his infectious humor and ability to bring laughter to those around him. From an early age, Robert had a passion for fishing, magic tricks, and telling jokes—interests that remained a part of his life.
As he grew older, Robert formed deep and lasting friendships, especially with "The Santa Barbara Crew," who became his extended family. He was affectionately known by many names, including GQ, Man, Rob, Schmitty, and, above all, Erby.
Throughout his career, Robert worked in various fields, including insurance and private investigations. He spent 13 years at General Wine and Liquor Company, where he earned his CDL, igniting his love for the open road and opening doors to greater opportunities.
Robert was married to Sharon for 31 years, and together they raised three children. In 2011, he moved his family to Texas, in 2013 he joined Call to Destiny Inc., where he accepted Christ as his lord and savior. For the past 14 years, he worked as an over-the-road truck driver, taking pride in a career that allowed him to do what he loved—driving and traveling across the country. He also obtained his hazmat, tanker, and double & triple trucking endorsements. He firmly believed that hard work was the key to achieving success.
Robert had a deep appreciation for music, singing, dancing, and sports, particularly basketball. A creative spirit, he enjoyed drawing and was a talented cook and grill master, barbecuing in any weather—be it summer, winter, or rain. He found joy and tranquility in fishing, often spending entire days from dawn to dusk by the water. His adventurous spirit led to spontaneous road trips with his family, sometimes waking them in the middle of the night for a surprise trip to Niagara Falls or Cedar Pointe. He cherished the outdoors and frequently took his family camping or to the mountains.
Known for his wisdom and kindness, Robert was respected and loved by many. He was outgoing, always making people laugh, and remained dedicated to his family, ensuring they stayed united. He instilled in his children the importance of looking out for one another and standing strong together.
On February 14, 2025, Robert made his transition to be with his Lord and Savior. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his four children: Christopher N. Erby (Latoya), ReKitta Erby, Brittni Erby, and Robert N. Erby III (Karon). His sister and best friend, LaSalle Erby-Brown, survives him, along with ten beloved grandchildren: Christopher Erby Jr., Kyliah Erby, A’Kievian Erby, Siniyah Erby, Jeffrey Frison III, Logan Erby, LeJin Hamilton, Robyn Erby, Londynn Erby, and A’Donys Carroll.
Robert also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family, and dear friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
May his soul rest in peace, and his love live on in those who knew him.
