A highlight achievement of his childhood was earning the rank of Eagle Scout. His scouting involvement gave him a long list of skills that he has used his entire life. It led to adventures that shaped core parts of his character and to memories heralded throughout the years. Bob graduated from Jacksonville High School. He then received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University (‘63), where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society. At A&M, he was active with SCONA (Student Conference on National Affairs). He was also a member of the Ross Volunteers, a prestigious, elite unit within the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. After earning his undergraduate degree, Bob served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army, where he found himself on assignment in Ethiopia. This assignment brought about another list of adventures and experiences. The tales of his time there were eloquently spun to family and friends for years to come. He then earned his Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. Bob met the love of his life, Zelma Rivers, at South Main Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. They married on June 8, 1968, in Westlake, Louisiana—Zelma’s hometown. Bob had a career in Commercial Real Estate Development at Robert Hall Investment Builders for over 50 years. He had a passion for reading (much to his kids' chagrin; he read so prolifically that he really did know just about everything), history, mountain hiking, snow skiing, and, above all, his grandkids.
Bob is survived by his wife, Zelma. His children are Rachel Kos of Austin, Lauren Hall of Houston, and Allen Hall (wife Kersten) of Cedar Park. His grandchildren include Morgan Kos, Zack Kos, Nik Kos, Connor Hall, Brody Hall, and Wyatt Hall. He is also survived by his brother, Lee Hall (wife Linda); sister-in-law, Kay Sweeney (husband Mikel); brother-in-law, Wayne Rivers; and nieces and nephews, Travis Hall, Courtney Hall, Betsy Stoupy, Michael Rivers, and their families.
Bob loved his family and would often talk about how rich he was—not because of money, but because of his family. The life and family that Bob and Zelma built together were truly remarkable. In both great and difficult moments, Bob continued to show up, work hard, and love his family. He was a man of true character, wisdom, integrity, kindness, intelligence, and love. Bob was a great one, and he will be deeply missed.
