Robert E. Hammett

He was born in 1941 in Parkersburg, West Virginia to Lily Mae Wells Hammett and Thomas Nole Hammett.

One of seven children, he grew up on a farm and became an entrepreneur long before he even knew the meaning of the word.

While a young teen, he visited his local banker to borrow money to buy a cow. Because of his young age, the banker immediately called

Bob’s dad to ask him for help. His dad laughingly replied, “I’ll come on down if you need help, but Bob doesn’t need any.”

Bob got the loan, and the rest is history. As an adult, Bob was employed as an ironworker, a health club manager, an apartment manager and owner, a real estate developer, and an oil and gas explorer.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Kelly Smith and her husband Bruce, his grandchildren, Taylor and Brandon Smith, his brothers,

Tom, George, and Sam Hammett, and his sisters, Mary Robinson, Pat Goodwin, and Margie Miller, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Known affectionately by his grandchildren as “P-pop”, Bob will be remembered for his love of nature,

his independent spirit, his sense of humor, his keen business mind, and his love for family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway in Houston, Texas at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016, and a celebration of his life will follow the service.
