

ROBERT JOSEPH OVERLY, 82, passed away May 4, 2010.Bob was born in Ranger, Texas in 1927 and grew up in White Oak with brothers Jim, Dick and Bill. He went to A&M with the Class of `48, spent two years serving in the Coast Guard then returned to graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950.Bob married Marjorie Morehead in Odessa then moved to South Texas to start a career with Humble Oil, and then Exxon. They raised four kids and relocated to several South Texas towns and New Orleans. Bob and Margie also spent time in Norway and California before returning to Texas to spend their retirement in Houston."Friendly Bob" was a lover of people, even his relatives. He also loved to travel and could turn any road trip into an adventure. He was an active participant in Aggie class reunions, mini reunions, White Oak Girls reunions and Ranch-O-Rama. He was a member of the prestigious "Thinkers" and "F.A.R.T.S." associations.In addition to a lifetime of stories, Bob is leaving behind all his children and grandchildren: daughter Peggy and John Barlow; daughter Mary Overly Davis and granddaughter Sally; son Rusty, wife Pam Cervenka Overly and grandson Robert; daughter Patti Whitford and husband Cliff.He is also survived by his brother Jim and his wife Jane, brother Bill, sisters-in-law Trudy Overly of Houston and Dorothy Morehead Hotchkiss of Canyon, brother-in-law Lucian Morehead of Austin and too many nieces, nephews and friends to count.Bob is taking a deck of cards with him to play bridge with several partners, most notably his wife Margie, brother Dick and Virginia Valentine, aka "Miss Meadowbriar".Bob loved Texas A&M and the Corps of Cadets. He helped many students attend the university as cadets through his support of General Rudder and Sul Ross scholarship funds. He asked for any donations to be directed to:R.J.
