Bob was born on March 10, 1932, in Christopher, Illinois, to Mildred Norris and Hollis Morgan Pierce. He was a cherished big brother to James Allen (who died at birth) and twin sisters Beverly Jean (deceased 1998) and Barbara Ann (deceased 2004).
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where he was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He pursued his medical degree at St. Louis University, specializing in Neurology, and completed his residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was during his time in New Orleans that Bob met the love of his life, Anna Belle Desormeaux. They married in 1961.
Bob served as a medical officer aboard a naval destroyer in Japan. After his naval service, he practiced at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic in Houston, Texas, before opening his private practice, where he dedicated decades to the compassionate care of his patients. He held several positions in the medical field, including President of the Texas Neurological Society from 1976-77 and Chief of Neurology at St Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, TX.
Faith was a cornerstone of Bob’s life. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and actively involved in the Serra Club. In later years, he became a parishioner at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
After his retirement in 1997, Bob and Anna Belle moved to a small farm and raised cattle in Mermentau, Louisiana, close to Anna Belle’s childhood home. In the early 2000s, they returned to the Houston area to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Bob was a man of simple joys. He loved poetry, classical music, history, and war documentaries. A proud patriot, he found solace in American march, old country songs, and the rugged beauty of West Texas. Above all, he was committed to his family.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Anna Belle, of Houston; his four children: Tim Pierce and wife Pamela of Highland Village, TX; Carol Pierce of Pearland, TX; Brian Pierce and wife Kay of Houston, TX; and Janet Pierce Hehl and husband Michael of Aubrey, TX. He was the proud grandfather of five: Jennifer Pierce of Galveston, TX; Isabel Hoffmann of Austin, TX; Morgan Pierce of Houston, TX; Brendan Fourtunia of Pearland, TX; and Alec Hoffmann (deceased 2022), as well as four step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Gabriel Martinez of Galveston, TX.
Bob’s legacy of love and service will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
