Robert Mitchell Thompson passed away peacefully at home in Spring, Texas. on February 18th, 2022. Bob was eighty-three. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Willis Herbert and Barbara (Mitchell) Thompson and stepmother, Wilma (Brookshire) Thompson, he was one of six boys. Bob graduated Minnetonka High School in Minnesota in 1956. He then served two tours in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1959 and 1963-1969 during which time he served on both submarines and destroyers. In 1963 while on liberty in Albany, New York, Bob met and courted his future bride, Patricia Ann Flannery. They were married in Troy, New York on December 26,1964. Together they had two sons and a love story spanning over 57 years. While in the Navy his education included certifications in mechanics and electronics. With his military education and experience in data system technology he landed a job with Xerox Data Systems in Houston, Texas. Bob’s early success in the computer system industry afforded him opportunities with other companies, TRW Controls, Ferranti International, and New York State ISO, where he ended his work experience as a consultant and project manager. Bob was an accomplished computer applications engineer and market research analyst in Electric Utilities, Petroleum, Pipeline, and Transportation. Bob traveled extensively during his career often staying in countries like Africa, China, and Australia for extended periods of time, the children’s resulting coin collections were a testament to his varied travels. He retired in 2006 in Schenectady, NY and he and Pat moved back to Texas to live closer to his children and grandchildren. Bob’s love of all things outdoors, hunting, fishing, and golf, came second only to the love he had for his family, close friends, and beloved hunting dogs. He is survived by his wife Pat, his children Robert Thompson Jr. wife Deborah, Dennis Joseph Thompson wife Angela, his grandchildren Ashton, Shelby (Andrei), Jordan (Joe), Alex (Nohely), Blake (Alyssa), Danielle, Cameron (Olivia), and great grandsons Cooper, Clayton, and Cade.
A gathering for Robert will be held Monday, March 7, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, Texas 77038. A memorial service will occur Monday, March 7, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, Texas 77038. A reception will occur Monday, March 7, 2022 at 1:00 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, Texas 77038.
