Our beloved brother Rodolfo “Rudy” Diaz was called home to our Lord on 23 November 2021. Rudy was born on October 14, 1947, in San Antonio, TX to Eugenio and Presentacion Diaz. Raised on the Southside of San Antonio right across the street from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at the famous 328 Hazel (family joke) with his father, grandmother, and sisters: Olga, Delia and Alma. In a small one-bedroom house, you can imagine how close they were (figuratively and quite literally). Despite the tragic loss of their mother at such a young age, their sister Olga vowed to keep her family together and helped raise her siblings. This selfless act of an 11-year-old Olga earned her the title of “Mom” by all three, even to this day. Rudy, only 4 years old at the time, grew up to become the protective brother always watching and caring for his sisters.
Rudy always had a passion for life and adventure. At the young age of 17, he made his father sign a consent form to allow him to join the US Navy so that he could serve the Country he loved. He served proudly.
Upon returning from the Navy, he moved to Chicago for 12 years before finally calling Houston home. In 1985, he met Angela Franco and fell in love. He made her his wife on December 9, 1986. Their love for each other only outdone by their love for God. Although they never had children of their own, they made sure to shower their nieces and nephews with tons of love.
Rudy lost his wife in May of 2021 and never truly got over the heartbreak of her loss. Although he missed her dearly, his faith in God never wavered, and he continued living life to the fullest making unforgettable memories with his three siblings the last months of his life. The Diaz know the meaning and value of family. To the end of his days, he showered his sisters and family with all of his love.
Rodolfo Diaz is preceded in death by his loving wife Angela Diaz; and parents Eugenio and Presentacion Diaz. Brothers-in-law, Omar Bustamante, Alvin Poore, Freddy Franco and Sister-in-law Dolores Wallace. He is survived by his sisters Olga Bustamante, Delia Poore and Alma R. Marin (Alfonso). He is also survived by his nephews and nieces, Luis Bustamante (Charlene), Mark Marin, Michael Marin (Gina), Carlo Bustamante (Marye), Michelle Marin and Alyssa Walker (Dylan). On his wife’s, side Brothers in Law, Eugene Franco (Jennifer), Joe Franco and nieces, Valerie Turpin (Brad) and Dorothy Witucki (Mark); great nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
