Ron Gene Utley

Mr. Utley was born May 11, 1943 in Dallas, Texas to Gene Charles Rudd and Doris McElhannon, and later adopted by his stepfather, John Utley, choosing to take John Utley’s surname. Ron grew up in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area and continued his education at SMU in the early 1960’s. After leaving college early to help out with the family business, Utley Carpets, Ron completed the Dale Carnegie Sales Courses which helped him become a top salesman and Carpet Contract Specialist for Commercial Properties. Mr. Utley had a larger than life personality and a big heart. He enjoyed fishing, boating, riding four wheelers, and driving his King Ranch Ford Truck. Ron’s big heart shone through his love of dogs and dog breeding, specifically Weimaraners. His particular favorite was a Weimaraner named Heidi. He will be greatly missed.

Mr. Utley was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind his loving wife and partner of 50 years, Jane Utley, of Houston, Texas, son, Ronald Shane Utley, of Austin, Texas, daughter, Robyn Utley Nembhard, of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Grandson, Eli Utley, granddaughter, Zoe Utley, both of Austin, Texas, brother, John Utley of Dallas, Texas, dogs, Russia and Spirit as well as many friends and associates.

The Utley family would like to give a special thanks to Reliant Hospice Care and their staff, specifically RN Cathy Lucia and CPN Zondra Johnson who took great care of Ron in his final weeks of life.

There will be a memorial service held Saturday, September 10,2022 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079, (281)497-2210.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ron’s name to the local no kill animal shelter of your choice.
