He attended Pasadena High School, then transferred to Sam Rayburn High School where he graduated in 1966.
Troy spent 3 years in the United States Army where he repaired and maintained anti-ballistic missiles that protected the west coast of the United States. While serving the Army in California, he met and married the first of his six wives (each marriage resulted in a divorce).
Upon leaving the Army, Troy was employed by IBM. He was promoted to Office Manager, overseeing Office Product repairmen. After his retirement from IBM, Troy worked for Compaq Computers in their research department. After his retirement from Compaq, he manufactured and sold massage tables.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents, and his oldest brother, R. Wayne Barrett of Houston.
He is survived by his brother, David R. Barrett of Whitehouse, Texas and several nephews and nieces.
Troy was cremated and his ashes spread in the ocean near Hawaii, as he requested.
