Rosa Flores Edwards

Rosa "Rose or Rosemary" Flores Edwards passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 20th, 2017, at her home in Houston, TX. Rose was born September 08, 1938, in Victoria, Texas, she was one of six children (five daughters and one son) of Josephine Rubio Flores and Antonio Flores. Rose attended Victoria High School followed by studies at North Harris Community College. She is survived by her sons, Michael Shawn, Peter Anthony and John Patrick Edwards who grew up in Houston. Her daughter in-laws are Marie Roman Edwards and Angela Aranza Edwards. She was blessed with two grandchildren, Nicolas and Lyla, son and daughter of John and Angela. Rose also had brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews and was also proud of her family.

Rosemary was actively involved, for many years, as a Christian, at Saint Leo the Great Parish, with Continuing Christian Education (CCE). As the primary supporter of her family she began her career taking care of children at her home day care "Teach and Care". She later worked at Johnson Elementary School, located at 5801 Hamil Road within the Aldine Independent School District where she impacted the lives of children by helping with teaching. She especially enjoyed bilingual education (Spanish to English) and meeting students years later only to thank her for her help. After many years of service she retired from Johnson Elementary School.

She was very proud of all three sons. One of her favorite past times and discussions was her grandchildren who made her so proud. She often helped Nicolas with his childhood chemistry set and readings from Monkey Me. She loved getting kisses from Lyla and watching her grow to a walk then to an age of placing words together. Rose was as an excellent cook making the best Mexican rice, tortillas and beans and always went the extra mile during the holidays. She loved her family very much and was loved very much in return.

The service to honor and celebrate Rose’s life will begin on Sunday, June 25th 2017, with family visitation from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM and public visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM followed by a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at Brookside Funeral home located at 13747 Eastex Freeway; Houston, Texas, 77039. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Leo the Great Parish, located on 2131 Lauder Road; Houston, Texas 77039 at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 26th, 2017. Her body will lay to rest at Brookside Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Michael Edwards, Peter Edwards, John Edwards, J.D. Lee, Eugene Perez and Stephen Garza.
