

Born on August 9, 1928 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Leo and Esther Joosten. She had one sibling, her brother Richard Joosten (Betty). Rosemary attended Mary Wood Catholic all-girls school. After graduation, Rose worked for the Michigan Phone company. While on vacation in Mexico, she met the love of her life, James “Jim” Potter from Beeville, TX. Rose moved to Dallas, Texas in 1955 to be closer to Jim. After a “long distance courtship”, Rose and Jim married in August 1956. Their marriage lasted 41 Years until Jim’s death in 1997. They had four children - Michael, Steven, John and MaryEllen. Jim and Rose, lived in McAllen, Beeville, Corpus Christi and then in 1972 they settled in Cypress, TX,
Rosemary is survived by her children, John Potter (Delaney), MaryEllen Sellars (Randy) and her grandchildren, Adrienne Gasiorowski (Scott), Sara Miller (Sean), Aaron Sellars (Lauren), Morgan Potter, Kylie Sellars, Samuel Potter (Shelby), Veronica Sellars (Fabian), daughter-in-law, Stacey Potter and her son Tyler Morris, great grandchildren, James Patrick and Emma Gasiorowski, Bryn and Maya Miller, Avery Potter, Sloane Potter and Everett Pantiskas-Sellars.
She is preceded in death by her husband, sons, Michael and Steven, her parents, brother and sisters-in-laws, Betty Joosten and Suzan Fincher.
Rosemary’s favorite career was home maker. She was a great wife and a fun mother making wonderful memories with plenty of laughs, playing games and taking the kids to their activities, mostly the swimming meets at Dad’s Club. She volunteered writing and delivering the Enchanted Valley neighborhood newsletter; volunteered for the Houston Area Rape Crisis Center as a public speaker and served as a counselor for 13 years; She was a founding member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church and served on numerous committees; She was also a founding member of Cypress Assistance Ministry (CAM) and worked there as a counselor, working with families needing assistance and also served on the CAM board. One of the most rewarding things for Rosemary was teaching the bible on Thursday nights for 30+years until she was 92.
Rosemary enjoyed reading, playing bridge, doing jigsaw puzzles, her Jersey Village book club and dinners with the “Bible Babes.” The family would like to thank those friends that invited, drove and checked on her and engaged her until her final days. We are sorry for your loss and know that she was so loved and will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. - Noon.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Brookside Funeral Home, 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77095.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Christ the Redeemer Catholic School/Rosemary Potter Scholarship Fund, Cypress Assistance Ministry or your favorite charity.
