It was a proud day in Fluker, Louisiana that Louis Sr. and Iona Walls had on December 7, 1939. They welcomed their first baby girl and named her Roxie Walls. As a young child, the family moved to Houston, Texas, where Roxie confessed her belief in Jesus Christ and was baptized. She was a faithful and active member at St. Chapel Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the late Elder Benjamin E. Boulding and Elder Ronald L. Morris. Sister Roxie was very instrumental in the church and community. She was the President of the Usher Board; organized the very First Annual Prayer Breakfast; purchased school supplies for the kids; initiated monthly birthday celebrations; purchased and distributed Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets for families in need and contributed to Star of Hope. She attended school at James D. Ryan Elementary; E. O. Smith Junior High and Phillis Wheatley High. Sister Roxie was united in Holy Matrimony with Ellis Lewis Skillern, Jr., who preceded her in death in 1975. She was the mother of three children, Timothy “T-bone”, Darryl “Pooh” and Eleanor “Lady.” Later in life, she met and married Louis Jackson. Sister Roxie was a chef in Houston Independent School District, where she retired. Preceding her in death were her parents, Louis C. Walls, Sr. and Iona Nicholes Walls; brothers, Douglas, Richard and Jerry; and sister, Thomasita Walls. She leaves to cherish her memories: husband Louis Jackson; sons, Timothy Walls and Darryl Skillern; daughter, Eleanor (Vincent) Lewis; grandchildren, Dalvin and Travis Lewis, Darlene Skillern, Mildred Walls, Timothy and Stephanie Lacy, Tara Momreal and Alissa (Adrian) Gabriel; step children, Paul Jackson and Sherrie (Charles) Johnson; brothers, James (Barbara) Williams, Wallace (Bertha) Williams, Louis C. Walls, Jr. and Larry Walls; sisters, Juretta (Murphy) Jacobs and Shirley Walls; aunts, Ollie-Belle Richardson and Mary Louise Nicholes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
