To know Royce, is to love him. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He never took life to serious; always keeping a smile on his face. He spent his days making jokes, loving his family, spending time with his friends, or helping out around the church. If he wasn’t playing golf, marshalling, or taking a trip, you could find him pulling one of his grandchildren’s legs. He truly loved being surrounded by all of his loved ones, including both family and his friends. All of his friendships he cherished deeply. He was one of those people that to know him, was also to be loved by him.
Education:
Graduated from Phillips High School, Phillips, Texas in 1957.
Graduated from Texas Tech University in 1961.
Professional:
Retired as CEO from Texas Bay Credit Union in 2003. (ARCO)
Worked as examiner for Texas Credit Union Department prior to joining TBCU.
Served on Board of Directors for Town North Bank and the Texas Credit Union League.
Hobbies:
Loved riding his Harley and taking trips with the gang. Traveled many miles and saw many parts of this beautiful country. Motor cycle days ended after accident (3rd one) in 2006. He had some great times with Steve, Hal, Rudy, Jesse, Mad Dog, Mike & company and others. They sure had a lot of stories to tell! After retirement he kept taking trips, but on four wheels or an airplane.
He also loved golf. Playing and watching. After retirement he worked as a marshal at Weston Lake Country Club where he made many new friends. These guys always had a good time. I am not sure if any of them were very good but they all enjoyed it! When Royce could no longer play, they would try to gather for ROMEO lunches. ROMEO=Retired Old Men Eating Out! Thanks to these gentlemen for all they did! Carl, Sam, Cliff, Mike, Les, and some I don’t know!
And then there were the Old Geezers! This bunch had way too many good times at the Mitchell Ranch in Giddings! I do not know the whole group but the biggest trouble makers were: Paul & Charles. There were many others but these two were the ring leaders! But they had great times!
Faith:
Loved God!
Loved Oak Lake Baptist Church. He made many good friends here. He dearly loved what I call his “Harem”. This is a group of wonderful God loving ladies of a certain age group that treated him like he was a king! Ladies, this did not make my life any easier!
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Oak Lake Baptist Church, 155550 W. Airport Blvd., Sugar Land, TX 77498 or the American Lung Association.
