Russell T. Rudy, 66, a native Texan and lifelong resident of Houston, passed away on Sunday, the 23rd of February 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, and brother, a loyal friend, and a man whose humor and kindness made the world a better place.
Born into a family deeply rooted in the oil and gas industry, Russell continued the legacy of his grandfather Manuel and father Ellis, both of whom acquired oil and gas properties across Texas and nationwide.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts from The University of the Pacific, with additional studies at the London School of Economics and UC Davis. In 1983, he received his law degree from the University of Houston and briefly practiced law before founding Russell T. Rudy Ltd with his wife, Kathy. Together, they expanded their acquisitions throughout the United States, demonstrating a commitment to fairness and integrity that became the cornerstone of their success.
Beyond his professional achievements, Russell was known for his generosity and selflessness, always putting others' needs before his own. He had a passion for collecting antique books, writing fiction, fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors. His love for adventure was only matched by his unwavering devotion to his family.
Russell is survived by his children, Austin Ellis Rudy and Allison Wentworth Rudy; his brother, Randall D. Rudy; and his mother, Beverly Diamond Rudy, who will forever cherish his guidance, laughter, and unconditional love.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katherine Johnson Rudy, and his father, Ellis Rudy, both of whom he deeply loved. Though his absence leaves a profound void, his spirit lives on in the countless memories shared with those who knew him.
A funeral service is to be conducted at twelve noon on Sunday, the 16th of March in the Kagan Rudy Chapel of Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet Street in Houston.
At a later time, the family will gather for a private interment at Emanu El Memorial Park.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be made in Russell’s honor to Habitat for Humanity, 3750 N. McCarty, Houston, TX 77029, an organization that reflects his lifelong commitment to helping others.
Russell's legacy of love, generosity, and strength will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
